Republicans Introduce Anti-Gun Law

We don't have enough information to say what the strategy is yet, but the Republican co-sponsors are all in districts where they are likely to face credible Democratic challengers. Think back to your High School Civics class. In that situation, the way to fend off an issue likely to be raised by a challenger from another party if to propose legislation purporting to deal with the issue that is patently unworkable and is sure to die in Committee. Then, when the Member of Congress goes home, he/she can campaign saying they tried to work on a solution for the issue but they couldn't get the other party to cooperate with them.

The ATF has already said they will not be able to regulate bumb stocks as machine guns...

Yeah, but they don't need to regulate bump stocks and machine guns. That's not the only provision of the NFA/GCA under which bump stocks could be pulled into a regulatory morass.

All the ATF has to do is create uncertainty with the device and they can pretty much dry up the market. Sure, it would get challenged in court - perhaps even successfully - but does anyone interested in bump stocks have the money to pursue such litigation all the way to the Supreme Court? I know that of all the aspects of the 2A I throw money at to help defend, bump stocks don't even appear on the list.

No as long as he properly registers and licenses his hands he should be allowed to have them.

I'm just spitballing here, but ...

Isn't "rate of fire" a mechanical measure of the time it takes for the firearm to complete one full cycle, multiplied out to a minute? That's how it's used when people say that the M16's rate is 700 rounds-per-minute. In a semi-auto firearm, the variable is how fast the shooter can pull the trigger. And since that figure isn't a fixed number, we're left with taking the time of one cycle, expressing it in fractions of a second, and then dividing 60 by that.

So a bump stock doesn't increase rate of fire. It just allows the trigger to be pulled faster. And if that is going to be cited as the critical factor, then somebody with strong fingers and fast reflexes can achieve a higher "rate of fire" than somebody who is weaker and slower. And a clean, well-lubed firearm will have a higher "rate of fire" than a dry, cruddy one. It sounds to me like it would be unenforceable.

Get involved in primaries. If too many take this stand then we'll be no better than red china or soviet russia in short order.

I'm totally disgusted by the GOP. They're almost all a bunch of leftists who also lie to get votes.

I vote in all of our primaries.

I was referring to presidential candidates. I realize that the real fight is at the state level and I'm informed about every candidate and their politics regarding my RKBA. If the NRA gives them a bad score it's a sure bet they won't get my vote.

As stated above over time this will become less of an issue with the general population. So delaying things becomes a useful tactic.I will let those lawmakers know my thoughts about the issues while every day this is postponed support for it wains. Today I am concerned about this but not unduly worried. A year from now lets see what we end up with.;)
