I ordered a Browning Buckmark Sporter Rifle a few days ago and I've been thinking about putting a quality Holosight or Red Dot scope on it. So far I'm leaning towards Bushnell's Holosight (51-0021). Anyone here have any experience/info/opinions on this Holosight? Also, I'd appreciate any other Holosight or Red Dot suggestions you'll may have. I plan on using this rifle (carbine) for plinking/informal target shooting a 10-50yd ranges. My budget is up to $300. Here are a few links:

Thanks.

Well I don't have the Bushnell but I have an Eotech 510 and I think its great. Super fast target aquisition, parallax free, and tough design. I have liked it better than just about any red dot I have used in the past and it can be quite accurate as well. I can easily get 1-2 MOA with my Bushmaster at 100 yards from the bench, definately precise enough for me.

Expensive but awesome.

The only glitch is getting your money's worth out of the fast acquisition... depends on the type of targets you'll be shooting I suppose. If at all possible, try before you buy though. Find a rental place or friend with one.

Our local gunstore keeps reselling the same Holosight. There's nothing wrong with it. It does everything advertised 100%. But people buy it, realize they don't really need it after a while, and sell it back to the store at a loss.

I just bought a Bushnell holosight off of Ebay for $190. I haven't sighted it in yet, but it is really neat. The holographic reticle is very different from a standard red dot sight. The reticle changes size as you move it closer or further to you - actually it stays the same, but it appears to change size. Also, there is no parallax, so if you have it pointed at a target, you can move your head quite far and still see that you have the target lined up.

and click on the HWS simulator

It doesn't show you all the features of the sight, but it is kind of fun.

I have heard that the Bushnell and Eotech holosight are the same and that Eotech actually makes the Bushnell version. The difference being price, and the protective "rollcage" around the Eotech.

The eotechs are "militarized", compared to the bushnell version.

1) hardened roll cage
2) electronics are packed in epoxy for shockproofing
3) night vision setting

I have an older model Bushnell Holosight on an AR15. I love it! If I ever get another red dot, it will be one of these (or an Eotech, but only if I get a really, really good deal on it).

It's got a tiny little pip in the middle with a larger circle around it, like a jet fighter gunsight. For precision slow fire, the little dot gets you spot on target. For quick shots, just put the target in the middle of the circle real quick. Remember, both eyes on the target, not the sight.

The brightness controls are variable and it works very well in bright sunlight at one of the highest settings or even almost darkness on the lowest (this AR is my home defense rifle).

I have the one with the Lithium N size camera battery. The battery is a little pricy, but common (it's a camera battery, your local Walmart or BestBuy will have it). Battery life is very good. These batteries also have a longer shelf live than AA alkalines and are not sensitive to cold temeratures like alkalines.

Thanks to all for the helpful/informative replies. I decided to go with the Bushnell Holosight, can anyone recommend a good internet retailer (good, reliable customer service and prompt shipping) to purchase a NIB one (not a factory refurbished one) from? Again, thanks.

All the EOTech's work with nightvision, the 'nightvision' setting is just a quick to set lower power. You can set it manually on all of them.

There are EOtechs that take AA instead of the expensive N batteries. You can get AA in lithium from Energizer for about 10 a pair and they last way the hell longer than the alkaline and are highly leak resistant.
