I was wondering if anyone here can point me too a resource for handloading 12ga Sabot Slugs for accuracy.

I've been wanting to start experimenting around to find the ideal load for my Deer gun, but internet searches come up with a lot of crap.

This is a topic primed for experimentation that would benefit a lot of hunters and I have to believe someone out there is doing it.

Thanks!

BPI offers a lot of slugs for handloaders and will send loading data along with purchase. They recently released their RSS sabots which take .50 cal pistol bullets. I have not yet had the opportunity to try them but I hope they are an improvement over their first sabot.

I obtained exceptional accuracy with the guilandi blue force sabots.

I also know slugs 'r' us offers impact discarding sabots that take a .50 cal bullet for the 12 ga version and a .44 cal bullet for the 20 ga version. They have load data right on their site.

If you want to save money, you'll have to cast your own. Both lee and lyman make molds that turn out a slug that goes in a AA wad and can be fired in a rifled barrel.

As far as experimenting is concerned, conventional wisdom is not to mess around with modifying charges and changing out components. Stick direct to a recipe.

I've been loading slugs for a few years know and while I would never be so presumptious to call myself an expert, I have learned a thing or two. PM me if you want links to a few articles I wrote on the topic.

Check out slugshooting.com which is the site for the American Slug Shooting Assoc. It is pretty civil and you can get some good info but most is geared to 12 gauge. I'm working on round ball loads for my 20 gauge right now but that project got sidelined by an upcomming antelope hunt and the need to work up loads for it this summer.
