ditto on the seatbelt. I personally tell folks that as a mental health counselor I know that their are some very dangerous people walking around and I put them at a greater risk to me than other predators like bears, lions, tigers, etc. because animals will normally signal their aggressive intentions earlier.

I was asked this once. My response was "for the same reason I have that fire extinguisher over there or carry a knife on me all the time: because I might need it some day."

he then mentioned that a knife has lots of uses other than hurting someone else, and so I mentioned that guns do, too, specifically target practice, etc. he retorted that you don't have to carry a gun concealed to do that.

btw, he also said that he was in no way questioning my right to carry, he was just wondering why I chose to.

Because the police can't protect me or mine. They're only there to pick up the pieces later. I'd rather they be pieces of human refuse, than me.
