Revolver-carrying luddites in fiction

THANK YOU for pointing that out. I have heard that coment so many times, and it just isn't true when you look at what the prop is supposed to represent. When he shoots it in the movie, there is no revolution of a cylinder.
Yes, while the Blade Runner gun does look vaguely "revolverish" it really isn't one.

My all time favorite example. John Malkovich in RED with a S&W 460V. I happen to own one of these, which is probably why.

I like this thread. It's a fun one. Thanks to the OP for starting it.

Harry in Harry's Law on TV carries a S&W 44 Mag (I think) she pulled it ot of her purse and shot a mouse (or something) in her office-nobody even went deaf! Imagine that! If I remember right she also used it to good effect to scare some thugs that were messing with her. I think it was a 4" 29 like mine.

Porter carries an S&W model 29 in Payback. Quite a few people carrying S&W revolvers in that now that I think about it.

Hey - I'm old enough to remember Mannix. One character actually whipped out a break top SW (or similar) gun.

Or the Vampire move with Robert Loggia - the beautiful vampire started to bite him as he was pinned on the coach and he whipped out a J frame from an ankle holster and hosed her off of him.

Man I suck at this game.. I just check and its a Ruger Security Six in ss that Sarah has.

Sarah Conner had a S&W mod 66 in the jeep with her in the end of Terminator.

Carrying a revolver does not make you a Luddite. It's a perfectly useful carry gun.

(The Luddite movement was named for Ned Ludd, who supposedly sabotaged some weaving equipment in England iirc, around 1770 or 1780.)

Some other character in fiction packs a webley...can't remember off hand

Andy McDermott has a series of books starring "Nina Wilde and Eddie Chase" His sidearm of choice is a Webley...

Modesty Blaise (Search for her; it's worth it) carried a Colt .32 of unspecifed type in most of the books. I think it'd be a Cobra or Det. Spcl., given the 1960's-1990's time frame of the novels.

The same character appeared in comic strips in about 53 countries.

She also had a S&W .41 Magnum for longer range needs and adopted a Star PD .45 auto to replace the .32 in the last few books.

Villains used at least one S&W Bodyguard .38 and other .41 Mags.

In TV, "The Lost World" characters used revolvers in the 1919-1922 time frame. Lord John Roxton had a brace of nickled Webley MK VI .455's as well as a .45 auto. Wore them in different episodes. Marguerite Krux had any of several hammerless revolvers, inc.one Webley WP and an old Iver Johnson. Must have been what the prop house had on hand some days. Various others had Webley MK IV .38's. Prof. Challenger had a Colt SAA or some copy posing as one. If you look closely, you can see that a "Colt" was really a Ruger Blackhawk in the "Finn" episode and in the case of "Trophies", where villain Avery Burton had it. Check YouTube for clips. There's a really sharp clip dubbed in Russian showing the Ruger in, "Trophies". Look from about 63:00-1:05, etc. Look for the sights, especially: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rf3ZSZqDSg&feature=related Don't get distracted by Jennifer O'Dell, who played Veronica on the show. That's easy to do; get distracted.

I'm not in a movie, a book, or on TV, but I carry a revolver at work, a S&W Model 686. One of my coworkers does, as well, but he's retiring next week. Everyone else carries Glock 22s.

I was in Ocean City, MD last summer and saw two police officers with four inch blued Colts in their holsters. I remember it specifically because I was surprised. I also remember my wife getting tired of hearing about it pretty quick.

It's like a seven part series. The Dark Tower, yadda. Seems pretty good with a gun.

Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man......

a super blackhawk 454 casull conversion...... http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Harley_Davidson_and_the_Marlboro_Man

Marlboro: You know, that gun costs about two dollars every time you fire it. That's two bucks a bullet.

Harley Davidson: Well how many'd I hit?

Marlboro: You spent twelve dollars and didn't hit a goddamn thing. I nailed one and it cost about four and a quarter.

Also, I can't find the exact quote online, but Marlboro (Don Johnson) said something like, "You're using a Ruger Blackhawk .44 magnum reamed out to .454? No wonder you can't hit anything with it, Harley!"

.

"One of my favorite things to see in a movie or book is the trope of the guy who's been around for years, seen-it-all, and chooses to keep carrying a revolver (or other old-fashioned gun) when everyone around him has switched to semiautos (or other modern gun). Just for fun, let's make a definitive list of popular fiction featuring this trope."

Well, I'm neither famous or fictional, but of all the handguns available to me, my Vaquero Sheriff's Model is on my hip more than my Glock or 1911.

Nathan Drake from Sony's Uncharted franchise has been known to use a few, although not exclusively

Nathan Fillion again, this time in ABC's Castle

And in the same show, Captain Montgomery from the first two seasons exclusively uses revolvers

In contemporary fiction, a Ruger Redhawk and a Ruger Bearcat shows up in Gene Wolfe's collection of short stories "Starwater Strains".
