I was trying to find references to Saturday night specials from the first half of the 20th Century, but I couldn't actually find any. Wikipedia says the term first appeared in print in 1968 (with an earlier reference to "Saturday night pistol").
In any case, what I was thinking of was the circa 1900 Iver Johnson, Forehand & Wadsworth, Harrington & Richardson, and Hopkins & Allen top-break revolvers in .32 S&W Long who some say are the original SNSs. On the other hand, they're not really of such bad quality, on the whole, so they may not really count under the modern definition. (The alternate term, "suicide special", is even less complimentary!)
So I guess I'll have to concede that Rohms are some of the first SNSs.
