You all want a little hint. Find a local FFL dealer running his operation out of his house. Ask him if he'll let you see his wholesaler's catalogues and what he charges to get the guns in.
I know a guy that charges $10 for the transfer/background check, and 10% above wholesaler listing plus sales tax. The prices compared to the local gunshops is unbelievable and you'll save a great deal of money on ammo. The guy I have used before for my Glock 20(NIB a little over $500 out the door) lets me order ammo at 10% above catalogue listing which is great for .45 ACP, .357 magnum, and 10mm.
If wasn't in the habit of buying or trading services for used guns I'd do more business with him and when I go to get my Glock 26 I'll talk to him if I get it.
We don't really need gunstores, we really only need gun ranges. I don't need vapid sales clerks who don't know squat about squat, or supposed Range Masters telling me to mutilate a S&W Model 19-4(Cut a 6" barrel to 3"). I don't need 'experts' in stores earning less than ten dollars an hour belittling my choices in guns (A Ruger P345 is good gun, not a great gun, and I got it for $200 when a gun store only offered the owner $125).
Find you kitchen FFL guys, and let the useless stores fall into nothingness, keep the ranges going and let the market vote.
