I am looking to buy more rifle actions, probably exclusively bolt actions.

I have a SS Remington 700 short action, a Mauser K98, and a FN SPR (basically a pre-64 Winchester 70, I LOVE that action. The quality is stellar.)

I will probably get these actions blueprinted and chambered before the end of the semester, so I should have time for at least one more.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd love another SPR, but it seems like a good idea to diversify and get experience with other actions.

Cost is kind of an issue but I can be flexible.

How about a SAKO finnbear?

I really like the M70 action, they are smooth and slick.

I do have a Ruger M77. It is a very good action.

If you like the FN action then I'd look for good deals on some of the Winchester Classics made from 1992-2006 to buy and use as donor actions. They were a good design, maybe the best of the Winchesters, but often the build quality was lacking. There are some bargains to be had on those if you look around. While some of the rifles as they left the factory were lacking, that is probably the action I'd want to build a custom hunting rifle from. For a target gun, the Rmington action is where I'd start

Project Rifle

I would recommend something diffent from what you have. The Savage action would be my pick also, you can thread the barrel and fit it to the action without using that ugly barrel nut. Making a neater looking job, good luck with what ever you choose. Al

As far as prices I purchased the FN SPR and the Remington 700 actions for about $250 each. We may be getting another chance at an FN so I may do that. The quality is just astounding for the price.

@KG727 He means threading the barrel into the receiver instead of threading the barrel into the nut and the nut onto the receiver which is how Savage does it at the factory. However, Savage's legendary inherent accuracy stem partially from the precision with which the barrel nut allows the factory to control headspace when building the rifle, so this may in fact not be desirable. If was building a custom rifle and a Savage action, I'd keep the nut.

by the time you buy one blueprint and all you can buy a custom action and save

Try a Stiller Predator action. In the end the custom action will resell better anyway. who trusts anyone who says they are selling a blueprinted remington action anyway. Trust me the naked eye will never tell.
action or used rifle 400-600
blueprint 250 or 350 or so

new Stiller action is about 900 and t is a solid piece of CNC stainless and will resell a lot more. If not try the Montana Rifleman actions also.

deadasslast, What do you mean? Blueprinting simply means truing as many bearing surfaces as possible to be perpendicular to the bore axis.

Things like squaring the front of the action, truing the bolt lugs, and using those now-true lugs to lap the cut outs in the action to increase lug contact.

And recutting the bolt face, etc.

I don't trust the 'blueprinted' actions out there. The factory also 'blue printed' them... Doesn't make them true.

Then just buy a custom action to begin with.

That too.

JG727 no I'm sawing to elimante the barrel nut altogether and use a shoulder on the barrel itself, to work like the Remington. That is if you are turning and chambering your own barrel, you can make it like you want, looks neater. Al
