Rifle Cartridge You Love for No Real Reason

I've had an itch for a 500 smith, 4" barrel. I'll download it of course, but I just want one. Heck id carry it occasionally.
My 500 is 5" with no brake and a .002" cylinder gap... Certainly a hand cannon by any definition! Do i need it, not a chance but it is serial number 25 of 250: a rare, albeit not highly sought after, model of X-frame.

7 Rem Mag
I was thinking about it too. Problem is, the 7 Mag may be as close to a perfect all around big game round as there is. Shoots flat as a varmint rifle, Takes anything from antelope to moose. Reasonable recoil for the power. My Browning shoots sub 1/2” with hand loads. What’s not to love? That said, yeah, I really like mine more than is rational.

My choice would probably be a .17 Hornet, which I was going to get but I was thinning down my inventory significantly and never bought it. It sat at the LGS for probably two years. Still intriguing and if I stumbled on another CZ in that caliber I’d be strongly tempted to get it, though I have zero use for it as I’ve got a .CZ in 204

My dilemma is that I’ve got an exceptional Burris Signature Select 3-12x50 that would match perfectly. I feel really bad about the scope not being on a rifle. Orphaned.

.444 Marlin. I have no real use for that cartridge but I have one.

Another .30-30 fan here. For some reason I just enjoy loading and shooting it. Not like it does anything "better" or special, but I will likely never not have a .30-30 in the safe even if I had to do a lot of paring down on calibers.

I don't have it, but for some reason (probably originating from the same "fudd" section of my psyche as the .30-30 affinity), I would like to have a .270 Winchester. It is bested in many ways by more modern cartridges like the 7mm-08 and 6.5 Creedmoor with comparable range and power but less recoil, less powder consumption, and in short action format. But, for some reason it has always stuck in my head as one that would be worth messing with. No idea if I will ever get around to it.

7x33 Sako....

My grandfather was allowed to bring one rifle with him from Finland when the family emigrated to the USA in 1955; I remember him showing my brother and I the rifle when we were kids; it is the Sako L46. That is the first center fire rifle I have ever fired; my grandfather bought it in 1946 from the gun registration document he had from Finland. He only had about 50 rounds left in the late 80's but in the mid 90's I found 200 rounds and snapped them up. I shot a few woodchucks with it as a teenager; it is extremely accurate.

The below website does a great job of summing up the history of this cartridge:

I know my grandfather used it for hunting to put food on the table (hard times in Finland just after WWII); I wish I had asked him what game he hunted. I do know he hunted moose in Finland but I don't think he used this rifle; it is more for small game/birds.

I don't have any pictures or I would post them; this rifle is sitting in my father's gun safe. My father promised me the rifle will go to me in his will and I will care for it and pass it down to my sons.

7.7 Japanese. Been shooting it since I was 16, and it's put a lot of venison in the freezer, and ended many a coyote's life. Oops, I guess those are actually reasons!

Anybody have a rifle cartridge that you are infatuated with for no real reason? For me it’s the 257 Weatherby Magnum. I guess I’ll always have a rifle of some flavor chambered in the 257 Roy, but I can’t really explain why. My 300 PRC is better suited for long range hunting. My various 6.5s, 308s and 7mm-08s are all better suited for hunting at more traditional ranges. The 257 WM eats barrels, is expensive to shoot and can be pretty fussy about ammo. The .25 cal bullets don’t buck wind particularly well. There’s just nothing about that screams, “Hey! Pick me as your favorite!” But, I love it all the same. I like non-standard cartridges and to me, that 257 Weatherby Magnum is about as non-standard as it gets. Anybody else have a cartridge like that?
I am in the process of ordering/waiting on parts to put together a Remington 700 in 25-06 so I am hoping to be part of the 257 master race soon... I have recently been turned on to the 257 diameter realm and it seems interesting as of late with Berger making 135gr match bullets! I have a 270, 30-06, 308, 6.5x55, 6.5 Grendel, and 458 Socom so I have a wide variety of rifles lol. While I do like my semi auto guns, there's just something about a good old school bolt gun that gets me going for some reason...

30-06 specifically in a Rem. 700 BDL. Only because I had one stolen. One day I will get another one when I can find a good older one that isn't twice what I paid for my first one.
Yeah I don't understand the crazy insane prices of used, and in some cases , well used, Rem 700s on gun broker or local gun shows... I get they are in short supply from the factory but come on man... I had to order all the components separately for my 25-06 build and am now playing the waiting game... Like you, I like the BDL style! I also have a McGowen 1-7 twist fluted light Palma barrel ordered so it should shoot really good, lol.

300 H&H is just a cool one to hold in your hand. Weirdly long and tapered. A reloader can get nearly the same performance out of a 30-06, so its a tough cartridge to justify keeping in a collection. Man is it classy though.
I’ve always wanted a No. 1 in .300 H&H for those exact same reasons .

For me, it’s the .22 LR. It is old, anemic, accurate, popular, inexpensive, and yet it’s very effective within its role. It can be fired in handguns and rifles; autos, revolvers, single shots, bolts, pumps, levers or combo guns and a pocketful of cartridges is an afternoon of enjoyment, hunting or potentially survival, for a minimal cost.

Well, I guess there are some reasons I like it o_O.

Stay safe.

7mm-08, because it is enough for just about anything without being excessive in weight blast or recoil.
250 Savage. I don't own one. I don't need one. I have never even shot one, but I would like one. In a Savage 99 Featherlight please.:)

I had one of the Cabela’s edition Ruger No. 1s in 300 H&H. I sold it to a buddy whom collects No. 1s because it was way too pretty to see any field use.

Since we are having fun here... the one rifle cartridge I wish I had a gun for is... .50BMG... except... I want an M2 to shoot it in.

When I was at Fort Carson, I got to fire the M2 machine gun... and I always joke (sort of...) that it's about as much fun as any person can have with their clothes on.
