If you want the Philippines-built 200338 you better grab one when you can find it.

They appear to have been discontinued. RUMOR - NOT SUBSTANTIATED BY ME - is that manufacture of some of these Burris models is being moved from Philippines to China. I know from experience and side-by-side comparison to US- and Japan-built scopes that the Burris Philippines-built scopes are good. I'm not a China scope guy (regardless of whether or not the Burris rumor is true).

The bargain prices on the 200349 are also disappearing. Over the past several months there has been hundreds of them selling on GB and elsewhere for $140 - $190 or so, now those have pretty much disappeared except for this seller with 3 left, and a few at higher prices.

This is typical of how discontinued scopes are blown out by sellers - a big surge of supply at relatively low prices compared to what they'd been going for over the prior years, then they're gone. Snooze and lose. ;)

I seen to have read a good number of comments and suggestions here just from today. Some very good comparisons between the Burris, Vortex and Leupold offerings. Opinions with substance as to why the opinion which is refreshing.

All of this is reinforcing my opinion for choosing the Burris as opposed to a Vortex Crossfire or some of the Diamondbacks. Surely I wish I was in a position to spend more money but being retired on a fixed income makes one more frugal.

Then the true question is "Just how much better?" Slightly better, significantly better?

I suggest you stop chasing your tail and buy one of the Burris 4.5-14s while you can get them at a reasonable deal. Since the day you started this thread you've already watched them go from being available for about $170 to now costing you $215-$230 or so. Regarding spending more money, I think you would need to spend a LOT more money to get a scope that would serve you enough better that you'd be able to see a difference. As I've outlined several times here, I've compared them carefully to scopes with street prices up to the $500+ range, and IF, IF, any of those other scopes are optically better, it's by a minuscule margin.

I found one this afternoon that had an offer tab so I made one for $200.00 and was countered with $205.00.. This is for the E1 with the reticle (338) that I like and then I have one other saved for $175.00 with the Ballistic Plex (349) reticle. So now I need to make a decision The one I like of save $30.00.. One or the other will be purchased before I go to bed tonight.

Really want to thank everyone for your patience and helping me along, I have learned much from this discussion.

Great thread timing for me. New Stag Varminter in 223/556 for long range target. Upgrading from a Nikon p223 3-9x50 because I want more magnification to punch paper beyond 500yards. Based on this thread (and CraigC) I went with the Burris FF2 4-16x42 with the Long Range MOA reticle model 200344. Should be here tomorrow.

Just added this to my daughter’s Ruger American Compact. Glass is ok, not crystal clear, but I think it should be dead simple for a young shooter. This one is linked by Bluetooth to the range finder and provides a lighted holdover once ballistic info is entered.

A friend of mine bought that exact combo when the first came out, and my opinion matches yours. Course there's gotta be some give getting the electronics in there, working, and the whole thing being affordable. I also found the Crosshairs to be a little thick for my personal preference, but as a hunting optic I think they were fine, and the RF connectivity is actually a more useful system than the built-in function of the Burris, Nikons, or Bushnell scopes.

Just got the ff2 I loaned to my FFL buddy back. Traded him a PFI 3-12x42 for it....which seems weird....I traded for my own scope.....
Anyway, I got the better end of the deal and didn't remember but mine is also the Long Range MOA reticle, which according to Burris' site is now discontinued.
