Rifle Scopes...

Currently collecting parts for a rifle I am working on. Sprucing up a run of the mill 1943 M91/30. This is strictly a "because I can" rifle. Already have the stock and bipod. It is also getting a Timney trigger, J-Meck low profile scope mount, and associated turned down bolt.

For the life of me, I can't decide on glass. I really don't want to go over $300. I like target turrets. I have been thinking about putting a Bushnell Elite 3200 10x40 on it. But, without being able to look at one locally, it is kind of a tough decision. Millett has a decent looking 4-16x50 that is right about at $300. Again, tough call because I can't look at one locally. I want a scope that has good quality glass, and can withstand less than desirable weather (rain/snow). What would you folks pick? Does anyone have experience on either of those scopes?

I just realized that Gear & Accessories may be a better place for this. Could a mod move it if that would be a better forum?

The Millett would be way to big for that narrow Mosin. It would be so top heavy that you'd have to shoot it upside down to balance it (I own one it's on an already chunkey bench gun). A good quality 3-9x40mm is all you need like a nikon prostaff. The most difficult thing is finding a solid mount for the 91/30.

I should be good on the mount. This is more of a fun gun than anything. But, it will likely wind up in the field too, hence the need for it being able to stand up to inclement weather. But, since I had no issues carrying an M1 Garand all over on my hikes this year, weight isn't a concern for me either.

I love this scope myself it is the redfield revalution made by leupold, almost the same as the vx1. This on is the 3-12 power 40 mm abj. with the range compinsating reticle. Glass same as the vx1 215.00 at cabelas. I added the leupold lens covers made of alluminum about 50.00 a piece and a 2inch 35.00 sunshade. Realy great scope. Looks like a mix breed!!!! The adjustments are finger usable and resetable to zero i highly recomend this one.

I personally realy like the 3200 series of scopes, but as you say if you cant look thru them before you buy its a risk....that scope is on sale at midway atm. I also like the redfields, and nikons. I have 3 nikons and a friend just bought the 4-12 prostaff so far it looks like my next purchase.

Check out the Burris Fullfield IIs that Natchez has on sale. IMO a 2-7x35 would be about perfect for the Mosin. It's not known as a highly accurate rifle in the first place. Target turrets on a Mosin is not needed and for what you pay for them you'd be better off spending the extra on ammo.

I shoot a couple of Bushnell Elites and they are fine scopes. Nary a problem and great glass. But it may be too much scope for your project? Me, I'd be looking at a used steel tube Weaver 4x (K4) for that Mosin

I think that steel tubed weaver would look realy good on that mosin thumbs up.
