I would usually opt for a full size Colt or Kimber 1911 in my home, but the hypothetical calls for the Remington 870 HD, backed up with a 1911.

Before the door actually gets kicked in my German Shepherds are going to warn me there's something wrong. If their warning doesn't do the job it's going to be my .45 USP, my wife will have her .40 USP.

I base this choice on what I'd grab for a house clearing job: M4gery AR with 30 rounder and a second 30 clamped to that. Eotech 552 with a forward pistol grip on the rails and a pressure activated switch for the SureFire. Backup is a G22 with a Crimson Trace. After all the training, and considering all the potential factors, AR gets the nod by the 5 inches less in overall length. Light, handy package with more than enough fire power (you can never have too much).

I'd grab my SKS + 4 10rd chargers and my cell phone. The last thing I want to do is use my weapon to kill someone. However multiple intruders may require opening fire.

A Sig P226 in .40 with a flashlight and a spare mag lying next to it in the safe near my night stand. That's 25 rounds.

I have an AK with two 30 round mags coupled together in the closet and two ARs in the same condition.

I have a bayonet on the AK. No tactical reason, it just happens to be there. If I need more than 205 rounds, I guess the bayonet could pay off...

Interesting FBI statistics.

Here's the thing I noticed. Perhaps...perhaps...the shotgun has more visual authority than a pistol does. So the handgun wielder has to actually USE it, while the shotgunner just presents it and the felon bolts like lightning.

Hey, just a thought!:p

What are you going to grab?

The phone. Then one of my long arms, most likely a shotgun. But which one of my considerable choices doesn't really matter. I normally have a couple shotguns, and rifles ready to rock at any given time.

Remember per the OP, someone "is kicking the door in". I do not have to go to investigate, I already know what is happening. I have no gain to go find out "how many".

Call the Cavalry, grab a fighting weapon (THEY ALL have shoulder stocks on them). Wait for the BG's on the ground of my choosing prepared by me, while awaiting the Cavalry.

I have extensive combat experience, and am not stupid enough to go looking for a fight. I have my prepared position, that if the BG's get near me they will be on MY KILLING GROUND, where I want THEM, the WAY I want them.

What kind of genius would choose to fight any other way? Unless they are looking for Darwin recipient of the year awards.

Fight with your head, not your balls.

Go figure

If i wake up a 0300 and there is someone coming threw the door i'm not wanting to aim with sleep in my eyes and still wanting to yawn, stretch and pee, and then on top of that adrenaline. My choice is my moseburg 12 ga. pistol grip. Just point and squeze the trigger. If 9 shots of double ought don't negotiate the threat we will talk about back up.

Remington 870 12 gauge, 4 rounds of 00 buck ready to go + another five on the butt cuff. If that doesn't stop them, I was SOL anyway...

I have all three available; a S&W Model 65 3".357, a Marlin 1894 also in .357, and a Remington 870 Express w/18.5" barrel. I'll use whatever I feel the situation dictates.

Lately my SUB-2000 has been sleeping by my bed, mainly because of it's high capacity(33 rounds), reliability and feel.

Its kinda a combination, I chose rifle but it fires a 9mm so its like a pistol and it is registered as a pistol.

Rifle is primary, pistol is the back up...usually. I have my SKS loaded with hollowpoints, pistol with hydrashock.
NOTE: I don't yet own a shotgun, but depending on what I get, and my performance with it, it might become primary.

I'd grab my revolver and hope I could gettem deterred in six rounds or less.

Ultimate question... I you were burglarizing a house, against which would you least like to take your chances?

If I absolutely had to choose one without knowing anything else, I'd least want to face a shotgun wielder.

One of several Remington or Mossberg shotguns.

Though the closest thing to me when I sleep is the P345 on the shelf beside the bed with streamlight.

If I had a choice, shotgun. If I had to react with what was closest, .45.
