Rifles you adore that leave others scratching their head?

What caliber do you have if you don't mind me asking?
I'd like to find one in 7.62x39 but they're "unobtanium" locally at the moment.
It's a Ruger American Predator in .308 Winchester. I've only ever shot 150 grain Winchester Power-Points in it. Never tried any other ammo in it because I was more than happy with it's accuracy and terminal performance.

I like the SKS.
I adore the SKS for sure! 1957 Romanian 100% numbers matching model, 100% stock, imported long ago by Century. Its well worn but runs like a thoroughbred. Paid $175 at a local gun show about 18 years ago. Back when 500 rounds of Wolf steel case was like $70.

I have a '46 M44 that is my son's favorite rifle, he absolutely loves it.

Of course, it's a "thumper" though.

Couple of years ago when he was about 12 years old I had him at the range the would just load and shoot, load and shoot, probably 60-70 rounds.

I remember thinking to myself "his shoulder is gonna be hurting tonight" but there wasn't even a mark!

Ooh, now that's my kinda rifle.

Pics when done. I have the 6.5 Grendel in a lot of different configurations but one of my favorites is my 6920 with a carry handle. People just scratch their heads when I tell them its in 6.5 Grendel.

Here it is... Need to index the flash hider still though.
My own custom blend of DuraCoat black with a lot of flattener added. Boyd's Furniture. A1 upper with a 20" barrel. Cassette trigger.

Remington M7 in .350RM:

I love this thing, it carries like a dream, but has a .35 Cal hole going in, .60+ Cal hole coming out, kills chit with authority. I've got two scopes for in in QD mounts; Swarovski 1.25-4X and a Leupold 2.5-8X. NOT a bench rifle by any means, but very, very, accurate for what it is. Sub MOA with Nolser 225 Partitions an Hornady 200s.

Currently going through an "upgrade", had the barreled action Cerakoted in midnight blue, and have had a Manners stock on order since December to shed some weight. Hoping to get it back together for some late season deer drives this year.

View attachment 1084671 So I’m pretty happy with this:

I trained on M16s in the army, and I’ve taken week-long courses where I fired an AR or a Scar, and I’ll readily admit that the ergonomics of the AR are almost perfect.

But…

I’ve never liked the .223, and AR10s are just…not what I’d hoped they’d be. My favorite rifles have always been M1A and Garands, so I finally built this monstrosity:

  • SOCOM-16 platform (you’re giving up too much velocity! You can’t easily suppress it!)
  • Archangel CQB stock
  • Ultimak M8 rail
  • EOTech mounted up front on a riser to see over the
  • DBAL illuminator
  • Surefire light, and a Surefire switch that drives both the illuminator and the light
I love it. It’s what I’ve wanted since i started looking for semiauto 308s.

I love it in spite of its flaws.

anyone else have weird preferences in rifles? Or dedicated slug guns that are your go-to just because of irrational preferences?
Mossberg US44- I have new respect for Mossberg, this is now my favorite .22 rifle!

My father still questions my fondness for my 444 Marlin.

Just don't let it go and stock ammo and brass. I have a 1974 Marlin 45-70 with the Ballard rifling that would likely be one of the last 4 or 5 I'd sell in hard times:

I took off that scope and added Marbles buckhorn rear and green fiber optic front. Accurate as a man could want and those 430 gr. hardcast handloads churn insane energy at muzzle!!

"Yes. My Remlin 1984CB. .357 octagon barrel.

I know it's not a "JM" stamped marlin. Its a badly made, rough as a cobb, bad copy put out by Remington.

But it don't know that. Well fitted, very smooth, accurate. I sold a JM marked 357 carbine that was awesome and kept this one."

Friend, that falls under the category of "Even a blind hog finds an acorn now and then . . ."

Just smile when you hold it and grin when you pull the trigger!!

I have several guns that use ammo that Cavalry doesn't list. Eg: 7.63 Mauser, .30 Luger, .32 S&W short, .44 Auto Mag, 7.65 Arg. Mauser, .338-06 and others. I'll bet you do too.
They do list the Auto Mag, but its out if stock.

Interestingly enough, the "wierd" stuff ive got has been reduced to a 6.5BRM and a .257 Roberts........for a guy who prides himself on having and shooting interesting cartridges, my collections becoming pretty Vanilla lol....Or at least fairly obtainable.
