Rimfire Inclusion

I assume this limitation is accompanied by some kind of improbable survival situation. In that case, you need a .22 rifle to score small game for the cooking pot. I would probably starve. :uhoh:

Rimfire Inclusion
<SNIP>

Here is my question. At what point would your gun collection include a rimfire weapon of some sort? In other words, would it be your third choice, your fifth choice, your tenth choice, or never a choice?

I would include it if I was down to three guns. Below three guns I would not have a .22 rimfire. So, where would you place one?

A weapon in 22LR would be my first choice in a "can only have 3 gun" poll.
No, I would not have a 10 round target/plinking pistol chambered in 22LR in that 3 gun group....BUT...

What I would have would be a customized 10/22 in either rifle or pistol configuration. It is one of the most versatile cartridges. You can hunt small game, target/plink, and defend. You can also carry heck of a lot of ammo (try carrying 500 rounds of 7.62x39) and from a long barrel, a the .22LR Stinger or other hyper velocity bullet can be pretty devastating, especially with 30 rounds flying at the target. Even a 10" barrel will wring darn good velocity/energy from the lowly 22LR cartridge. Coincidentally, it's my current project.

A .22lr bolt with scope would be my first choice.It can put meat in the pot, provide self defense, and ammo is redily available. Also, few things in life are as much fun as a .22 rifle, a brick of ammo, and a summer afternoon. Serious grin factor.

Depends on where I am in my firearms "curve" for lack of a better term. Early on, I longed for ballistic superiority, and for a while it was fondness for anything military, and after that anything that had any connection to the numbers "1911 in .45acp", etc. None of those stages would have included a 22rimfire.

Times change (did I mention "curve"?). And now, for reasons of economy, aging and practicality, I suppose, .22lr is defnitely in my first 5 picks,.. OK, maybe 10 picks.

Tomorrow, I could hit the lottery and interests *might* change....

Rimfires are near the TOP of my collection - as trainers. I have a .22 conversion for my M9, and dedicated .22 uppers for 2 of my ARs. My 'serious social purposes' guns are the same as my 3-gun setup; shotgun and centerfire rifle and pistol. Though I do agree with the other points posted lauding the .22 for small game and ammo availability. But what's to stop me from throwing .22 conversion kits for my go-to rifle and pistol and 100 rounds of rimfire in my BOB - and not counting that against an arbitrary 3-gun limit??
