Welcome to the Rimfire Match for the month of November! This match is open to any and every 22 caliber (as well as 17 and 20 caliber) rimfire rifle including the perennial favorite .22LR, as well as the .22Short, .22Long, .22 Mag., .17HM2, .17HMR, and 5mm Rem RF Mag (as well as any oddball rimfires that you might have). This match is meant to be challenging and educational, but most of all FUN. Hopefully it will get you out to the range and shooting your rifle. If you have one handy, make sure an bring a friend too.

There are Two Optics Divisions:
->Iron sights and non-magnified optics and red dots. Shot at 25yds.
->Scopes and other magnified sighting devices. Shot at 50yds.

*Note that the distance is back to our typical range of 25/50.

There are Two Rifle Classes:
->Unlimited/Target Rifles (highly modified rifles, rests, target sights, .17 caliber chamberings, high magnification optics- over 10x [in the appropriate division] may be used)
->Sporting Rifles (Includes All Non-Target Class Autoloaders, Bolt Actions, Single Shots, Pumps, & Lever Rifles chambered for any rimfire cartridge .20cal./5mm and larger)

Both classes can be shot from any position. Rests/Sandbags/bipods are permitted in the Target Class only. Shooting stick(s) are now permitted for both classes (either crossed or walking stick style). Use of a sling is encouraged.

25 Yd. (Irons) Target: See image in the link below. Scale to 100% on standard 8.5x11in. paper. The objective is to fire 5 shots at the 10pt. bulls. Scored as marked with additional bonus targets on three of the corners for all who dare. The bonus targets are worth an additional 10 points for each shot touching the black center (no points or penalty is awarded/applied for any shot lying outside of the black bullseye but ), but you risk disqualification if you don't break the outside ring, for a total possible score of 80pts!

50 Yd. (Optics) Target: Same as above.

If you enjoyed this match and want a bit more challenge, or just compare your rimfires to their big brothers, check out the concurrent Centerfire Match using the same target at double the range.

When you are satisfied you've done your best post/attach (or shoot me a PM) a photo or scan of your target with as much of the following information as possible: Forum name (or name you want posted in the results), Rifle, make, model, vintage (if known), Sights/Optics (with magnification if applicable), Ammo, Position, Distance, Conditions (in/outdoors, wind, temperature...). Multiple submissions are allowed (in same or different division/class with same or different rifles).

Self-scoring is encouraged and appreciated. All submissions due before November 31st. ;)

I should actually be able to participate this month after a few month hiatus due to school...can't wait to get shooting again!

If I can get out shooting again, I'll even do this with Scope bases used as Iron sights!
Yes, I am serious. I will use my bases as Iron-sights. I don't have irons on my Marlin Model 80, and have moved its' scope to another rifle. I have shot it like this before, and found that I have had some reasonable success.

I don't, however, understand scoring. Is it just using face value of bull-rings?

LJ, I could be wrong, but I think all the rings count as they are marked.
So, for the 5 shots at the big center target, all the rings count as marked (6 thru 10) for a maximum of 50 points.

But, for those 3 optional corner targets, only the 10-ring counts,
and if your shot lands outside the rings altogether, your target is DQ'ed.

Here is my first attempt at the matches! I will be trying to get back out to the range with some of my other rimfires, and centerfires later on in the month.
Tonight I took out my Remington 510 single shot, just for kicks.
25 yards, iron sights, so i believe that that puts me in the non magnified sporting class, Shot unsupported prone, with federal bulk pack,
Correct me if I'm wrong, i believe that this is either a 43 or 42

Mav - did you upload this differently this time? I can't seem to click on it, to download it; when I save the image, and try to print it out, it only comes in at about 2/3rds the original target size. Any suggestions?

Disregard, Mav - I think I got it to print out correctly this time. Should the center 10 ring measure .75" across, when scaled & printed correctly?

You got it.

Did I step on some toes here? Could someone please answer my question about scoring?
My apologies for the delay, I have been out of town for the past 3 days with limited internet access and little free time...just got back tonight. Looks like a 70 to me.

:)

My computer doesn't seem to want to print it to scale ( I blame Linux ), it comes out reallly small.

Seems right if I adjust the width to 8.5" in a photo program... How wide is it from one ring to the other so I can be sure it's to scale?

Outstanding display of marksmanship, CJ! Looks like I need to update that leaderboard.

:)

I'll have to find time to get a couple of target done and in next weekend. Tried to make an entry for the unmagnified-sporting on Sunday with an old Remington 514, but kept going for the bonus bulls. I could see them until I looked down the sights... :scrutiny:

Maybe I'll drag the Win 52 up for a target-unlimited/unmagnified entry. 25 yards? It'll be tough to resist going for the bonus bulls, even though they're so hard to see with irons!

You have better eyes than I. I figured the bonus bulls would be out of the question for the non-magnified div.

Good luck, WW.

Hi Gang,
Well, I survived the cataract surgery this morning - Wow, once they started it took less than 10 minutes for the actual surgery. I hit the surgeon's office at 8:15 this morning, sat around for a while waiting for my turn on the table. My wife took off work to be my driver and we were back home before 10:00.

Maverick, I took the liberty of creating a PDF file for you of the Turkey target. I scaled it to fit an 8.5 X 11" page in my graphics program and printed it to a free program called "PDF Creator" which makes it into a PDF file. I actually printed it out full size (no scaling) using Adobe Reader and I measure the 10 ring in the center of the Turkey at 3/4". If that's correct, you can use it for both the rimfire and centerfire matches and it will be a lot easier for everyone to work with. Anytime you need a PDF file made of one of these targets, just let me know. I'll be glad to create it for you.

It will be several weeks, before I can shoot the rimfire match and won't be able to compete in the centerfire one this month.

Jim

Glad to hear it, Jim. Hoping you have a speedy recovery and are able to get back into the swing of things quickly.

Thank you for creating an easy to print PDF for the target, that's pretty darn close to the size I have, so it'll work great. Look forward to having you back whipping me with those new Savages!

:)

Well, look like I'll have to try for next month. Never got around to shooting this match ( my 60 wasn't liking the federal stuff I had anyway ) and my darn LSHO lever broke by the time I started shooting other stuff.

I've got to send it out to Marlin for warranty. :(
