My cousin is a bit strapped for cash. He has given me a stainless ROA to sell for him. Trouble is, I think I might just be the buyer..I dunno. Prices for these things are all over the map. Here's what I know about it. He got it from his FIL's estate. It appears unfired, no stains, nipples and cylinder look like new. I know his FIL wasn't into cleaning guns so I really do think, despite the turn line, it is truly unfired. No box, no nipple wrench. 7.5" stainless. Serial number is 145-17957. Anyone hazard a guess as to when it was made? I need a ball park price as to what would be a fair price. If I don't buy it, I'll offer it for sale on here. Don't want to take advantage of him so I'd like to know what ya'll consider a fair price. Wish I'd never have put it in my safe. Now its friends with all my other handguns, especially my 1860. They think they should remain together lol.

$400 would be a very fair price for you.
Bein family, $350-$375 would be a good deal.
On here, $400 + shipping is still very fair for all.
Made in 1979.

If the gun has adjustable sights and is truly in like new condition, $400 is a very attractive price. I have seen several stainless guns with adjustable sights going for close to $500.

If the gun has fixed sights it would probably bring more than that. The short barrelled stainless fixed sight models are seen going from $700 to $1000 on auction sites. The longer barrel might bring a bit less (a fraction of a second slower out of the holster in cowboy action competition), but I think it should still bring a lot more than $500.

If you have ANY interest in ever shooting a cap and ball revolver, jump at this. You will not lose money on it.

Thanks guys. I think, HE thinks its worth more than that so this will help educate him. Any ideas how much cutting off 2 inches of barrel would cost? I might be interested in doing that and adding a conversion cylinder, IF I can justify the cost.

ROA

I agree with Jim.If it was new in the box with accessories $500. might make sense.

I would be surprised if an almost like new Stainless ROA would last 24hrs on Gunbroker with a Buy it Now price of $500. At $400 it would be lucky to last an Hour. Kind of Crazy, but then again the supply of available for sale ROA's is dwindling. In a local market the street price would probably go down significantly but online there are lots of buyers with money to spend.

New & unfired, with a turn line but without box or wrench is worth about $450 - $500.
However folks also often sell ROA's in similar condition for more or less.
Some may include shipping in that price while others wouldn't.
Listing it on Gunbroker would involve deciding what the starting price should be and then paying the auction fees after the sale.
A "Buy Now" price doesn't need to be listed on a regular Gunbroker auction.
Christmas is a time when folks are willing to splurge a little extra to buy special gun gifts for themselves and others.
I would consider being able to buy it for anything less than a total of $450 shipped to be an extra good & fair deal.

I'm going to pass on it. Just don' t need it right now. I'll advertise it on the forum and give everyone here first shot.

It's not so much about caring as it is about the perceived value of the gun and the possible Dollar deductions for minor flaws verses a brand new mint gun in the box without a turn ring.
The box, the nipple wrench, a turn line on the cylinder, dings, dents & scuffs on the finish can all affect the price which some folks will pay.
Even the fact that the gun was made in 1979 can affect its value to some.
If such things don't bother a potential buyer then they will offer more for it.
If they bother someone at all then they will offer less.
It's not dissimilar to coin collecting.
Condition can mean something and that's why coins have a fairly precise rating system.
Of course value is always affected by someone's opinion about whether a tiny flaw detracts from the item's worth or not.

ROA

There's been a SS old army on gunbroker for a month without any bids that has corrosion. He's asking $425.
