We are coming back from a lovely afernoon looking at guns with 4 of my best friends, 2 carreer marines my cousin who is a devout budist and is a master of several disiplines of martial arts, and me. Suddenly a guy on the cell phone, cuts accross the southbound lane to the northbound lane cutting us off as we are crusing along at 65 MPH, Phil is driving a Lexus sedan with NY plates, as he goes back and forth, the guy is high on something and Phil with his NY plates is immediately cursed at for being a"--- ing new Yorker", who is spoiling his beautiful state. We are blocked in, and I know Phil will just shoot this kid if a gun comes out, of the console as he is carrying a 357. all being exceptional pistol and rifle shots other than Mike, My nephew, he's into the budisim, thing but works out daily in several martial arts disciplines. Mike is out of the car before you can say ambulance. And starts to reason with this dumb ass. The guy asks him who the heck he is, and what is going to happen if he continues on this path. Meanwhile an off duty cop, in a wrangler, saw the whole thing, “thank god" we resume driving at my request, I. and he starts racing up on us flashing and blowing his horn ,also is calling his friends to come and "get us". I doubt he had any friends that could stand up. I ask phill’s permission to shoot out his window if necessary, as that 380 is not going through 2 pieces of glass and a person, but if I see a gun poined at us e's going to get shot. The cop pulls up and asks us what he said, after ID'ing himself. He doesn't even doubt a thing, as he saw it all. He pulls up to the kid driving the Lincoln and asked him if he has been drinking today, he says no, some more conversation about bloodshot eyes etc., and he detains the guy and we go on our way. Made the day more interesting, but what was this guy thinking. Unless he had a heat seeking missle in his car, he was playing with certain disaster, makes you wonder how these people are still alive?
We look at each other and agree to never leave out main carry weapon home for any reason.Everyone thought everyone else had theirs, meanwhile thank God Phil had his car gun. My beanshooter is just for a gun of last resort. Moral is carry all the time, as you just never know.

Don't put it in PARK

Keep moving , stay in the car If you don't want a problem.
Don't go home if your being followed.
Last time I had a incident, I pulled over next to a parked Sheriff.
It pays to know where they hang out.

The main issue I see here is Mike leaving his vehicle to reason with the individual. I know here in South Carolina that would likely have been viewed as an escalation by the OPs party.

In a road rage situation, my personal opinion is that you should always stay in your vehicle unless you are being approached by a antagonist with a clearly visible weapon or is obviously using your vehicle to provide cover to themselves. A vehicle is a multi ton weapon when used correctly.

Guy on a cell phone coming from the opposite direction cuts them off.
Phil is high on something.
somehow they pull over for a confrontation, but a off-duty cop shows up.
they resume their travels.
flashing lights, blowing horn and yelling.
a gun was pulled?
cops pull them over and a arrest is made.
somehow NY plates and Budda made it into the story.

thats the best I can decipher anyhow.

Looks like you had an exciting day. Yes there are some very rude, self centered people driving on the road.

The important thing is that you and your bud's got home in one piece without any lingering complications.

Stay in the car, don't get out and argue, go around the other direction if need be, but don't go face to face with an angry nutcase.

What I got from this...

Maniac starts a road rage incident with the wrong four guys, one of whom is our OP. Another is a badass Buddhist and two more are badass Marines.

(Side note: Buddha was an Indian from a noble family. He wasn't Chinese.)

Four guys stop and try to reason with said maniac. It doesn't work and they all drive off.

Off-duty LE sees what happened and checks with the four guys, probably as they seem more rational.

OP asks permission to shoot out his buddy's car window (?) if it comes to that.

It doesn't come to that.

Cop detains the maniac, the four guys drive off.

My take:

  1. Hyped out writing style aside, it sounds to me like the four guys were prepared to offer violence if it was offered to them, but showed restraint.
  2. Not sure how much restraint, though. With even one firearm in the car, the OP and buddies need to hold to a very high standard. It may have been better to just back off and let the maniac feel awesome, maybe followed up by a call to 9-1-1.
  3. Use of deadly force is a last resort. It's cool that the OP "asked permission" to blow out some car windows, but I hope that wasn't an indication of hesitation. If use of lethal force is required/justified, please don't wait for permission to destroy mere property in the process.
Seems like it turned out OK in the end. I bet it was a good lesson for the OP and friends, as well as the maniac who hopefully got hauled off for a DUI and some traffic tickets.

sorry this didn't meet your high linguistic status. The guy cut us off, continued to cut us off, we stopped he boxed us in and opened his console and reached for something,he already was on his cell when he cut us off so it wasn't a phone, Looked like a weapon, but I can't swear to it. He then refused to move out of the way to allow us to pull out. No one was high on anything on our end, "don't know how the idiocy arrived at that statement. You have 4 guys 2 marines and a guy who owns several businesses, being threatened by one ***** who won't back off. He is trying to force us off the road, so we pull over and by now, we do want to kick his ass. Mike got out to try and explain the stupidity of what the guy was doing, but all he could say is how we,” Yous, New Yorkers” BLa BLa BLa. We had enough of this at that point, there was no one around other than this off duty sheriff who happened to have seen the entire thing and turned around himself after seeing the guy almost ,T bone us. He wants to fight a car full of large men, and starts calling his friends, "so he says". We just wanted to go home but he wouldn't have that. The officer pulled up and asked us if what he saw was correct, at which point he took control and detained the guy, but there was a gun in the guy’s console, I heard him tell the cop, which is why he was so brave. I guess he didn't know that everyone has a gun in Florida, even cars with NY plates. I hope this is up to the high standards of the "chat rooms" scholars. As IO was just relaying a quick story before dinner not an amendment to the constitution. after a couple thousand posts you would think the kind of go go ga ga would be over with, but sometimes it's like a bunch of 90210 girls in here
