I'm with collateral:

Dwhitehorn - What model is that RIA, and did it come with that finish?

(i.e. give us the scoop on that pistol! mods, etc.)

You'z guyz sure make it hard to look away! I love the pics. I'm in the market for a base-model 1911 for a low price and I think y'all have piqued my interest! Thanks a bunch!! By the way, when y'all figure out who made those grips you're asking about you're gonna hafta beat me to the phone to order them. I want some too!!

OK Guys, On the Grips on David's pistol, Go to VZ Grips, look up VZ Aliens (almost all the way down the list) Then you got to order them through Nighthawk Custom, Tele-877-268-4867. I've got mine on order today. They'll be on my Bitone within the week. Ain't computers wonderful.

PS. 40S&WFan, beat you to it! lol

Not a bash but I'm wondering what the typical upgrades for reliability and best performance will cause the total cost of a RIA 1911 3" to run? Is it going to get close to a Kimber or Springfield or Colt?

It would take another $400-$700 before you are in most of those gun's price range, and I would not put a Kimber in the same boat as a Springfield.

I'll take a Springer over a Kimber in a Heartbeat! Not Knocking Kimber, (my friend just bought 2 new (about $2600.00), and having problems with both, My springer Mil-Spec and my RIA have been perfect since i've owned them. That's why i bought another RIA "Bitone" this week. I guess in this situation "Money" can't buy satisfation. Sorry for the Advertisement. SA and RIA is the answer. :neener:

Hey FoMoGo, what model is that? I thought they only came in blace and bling (chrome). I absolutly love the contrasting colors that yours has.

great buy! i own one and ill never let it go. good quality, never have had a problem with it

If you're asking about Dwhitehorne's pistol, that's a new style Tactical model, with a brushed nickel finish. It's a new finish for them, they also have a 2-tone out now. Pretty guns.

Yeah, I can barely wait to throw mine down on the pavement :neener:

RIA.jpg

This gun has eaten everything I've fed it since buying the Wilson Combat magazines. Not so much before that.

The internals were not well machined on this RIA and it showed with a very nasty trigger pull. I replaced many of these factory parts, some with parts returned to me from my Springfield when I had that tuned by a professional. All replacement parts dropped in without a problem. This is a great shooting gun now. Cost me $350 as I recall.

I paid $349 for my RIA GI.I put checkered grips on it,and except for the A1 'finger cutouts' aft of the trigger,it's a clone of the 1913 Colt I gave the boy on his 21st. B-day.
Out of all my collection, this is what I'd carry if I knew I was headed into trouble. It's dead reliable with the 7 round flat bottom Mecgar mags.

Collateral: Those are VZ knock offs I got from someone on the 1911 forum over a year ago.

dirt-j00: My RIA is the satin nickel version. I got it from Bellshire Hardware off gun broker for 475 shipped. I've been very pleased with mine so far. Here is a link that has my initial range trip a few posts down the page. David

Dirt, Thats the Bitone Tactical 5", I've got one also, plus i just bought another one on Gunbroker this last week.(supposed to have it by Monday or Tuesday. The VZ grips are for the second one. I'll post ya a picture next week.

Dwighthorne, I just read your last post. Funny, My second "Bitone" RIA I purchased was from Bellshire Hardware last week on GunBroker.com. Great people to deal with. Sorry for "stealing" your grips. (Love them) I ordered a set of "VZ Aliens" yesterday for my other RIA. Bye the way Nice Pistola!

Ugly??

I lust for one of the nickel plated jobs like Cocked and Locked posted above.

The only thing I find somewhat ugly about them is their Rock Island Armory rollmark and shield, but I don't like most any markings on guns and the RIA one is certainly better than certain S&W markings and any Taurus ego thumping BS. (but then, how could I complain about Taurus BS? What kind of S would a bull make anyway? What's this got to do with anything........oh yeah, the OP called RIA's ugly)

Mr Garrett, The bi tone is the one I really wanted but I couldn't find one when the money was burning a hole in my pocket. I settled on the nickel instead but am pleased with it. I'm looking forward to your picture. I may just have to try and justify the compact tactical "FOR the wife" of course. Look honey, what I just got for you:D. David

David, like i stated above, My new Bi-tone was Procured from Bellshire Hardware. Same as FoMoGo's. That was the last one they had. (But) he has 20 of the Bi-tones spoken for from a Master sergeant in Iraq, (they'are making a Commerative Pistol for their unit ie. Iraq 2008-2009). If that falls through he's going to relist them on GunBroker.com. I have contact information for them if you need it. Private message?(great people to deal with).

:) I didn't say that I lust for the grips, C&L, but I do like the contrast of the black formica 1950's kitchen table top grips in the later photo. LOL!

What happened to the original hammer pin?

Usually the criticism of the RIA 1911s come from Colt / Wilson Combat / Kimber / Nighthawk snobs.

They are great money for the buy.

Even though they are Water Buffalo Horn, you're right...they do kinda look like 1950's countertop material. :scrutiny:

That is the original hammer pin. Don't know why, but it is not nickled...just dark.

The hammer pin on my Springer is nickled

God i hate these threads.

If i end up having to buy one i will renounce my membership to this website.

:D

Rondog, you and Fomogo sure nailed it! These RIA pistols are a great value for your $. You can spend a he** of a lot more money for a .45, but you'll never spend your money more wisely than on a "Rock".

Gotime, you better get one [or more] and be done with it-you won't be sorry! ;) Buckshot Bill
