I can get a rock island 1911 for 310.00 out the door,I'm wanting one to play with/experiment with. What would be ya'lls recommendation.I was gonna get a norinco or springfield but this seems to be a decent deal. The fit on everything appears good.I have a loaded springer that Tuner checked out and don't want to mess with it.It will just be a beater, truck, shootin' tater's and misc. objects gun.

A good buddy of mine that works drug interdiction around the Corpus Christi Texas area bought one and loves it. He had the grip safety changed out for a beavertail style and added an extended thumb safety. This is his primary carry for duty and it has not failed him in two years. The gun was checked out by his offices' armourer and was told it was a keeper and authorized for use.

I am sure the gun will work for the use you stated.

Thanks

I know they're cast, but I swear the last few I've seen the fit and quality seem very good for the money.I just wish they made a tru commander.

Get the Rock Island (made by Armscor) if you want a close to GI issue 1911. If you plan on changing *anything* take a look at the Armscor 45 -- Springfield "loaded" features for <$360 (paid $330+tax for mine).

The RIA was the first 1911 I bought. I figured I'd just get one to play around with. (Yeah, right! I now own 5.) I have more rounds through it than any other 1911, somewhere around 1500, and it's only ever failed once. That was a fail to remain open on the last round. Turns out it was the crappy mag I was using.

I can't recommend it strongly enough for what it is: an inexpensive shooter. And *that* is what the definition of any gun should be- a shooter.

I had a RIA

I had a Rock Island for a while. Shot it bunches. Other than some hammer bite it was great. I didn't care for the Subtle Two tone but that's no big deal I guess. The gun worked great. As with most guns I praise I must add the usualy end comment; I miss it.
Why do I sell the guns I like? :banghead:

Are the Armscor 9mm 1911 guns imported into the USA?

I'd love a real 1911 in 9mm for cheap shooting, but am not willing to spend $700+ for Springfield or Kimbers "target" models.

In the meantime I make do with my Star BM.
