i have to disagree with you logical....he didn't say buy the junk gun b/c it might get confiscated, he said if both were equal (in his mind anyway), why spend more?

great point to consider, i think 3rdpig

edited to add: his point is not that much different than some of the points that justified spending more b/c of style, work of art, looks, blah blah blah, etc.

I think several of us were responding to the fact that we wouldn't allow such a consideration (the cost of the weapon that could be lost temporarily to authorities) to influence our selection of a weapon to defend ourselves.

Yes, if you posit the question in such a way that the guns are of exactly equal utility -- it makes financial sense to buy the cheaper one. Of course, we aren't always motivated by what makes financial sense...

I also disagree with the premise that both guns serve the same purpose or are "interchangeable" for defensive purposes.

Plus...if the S does HTF, who wants to have to read about it in the newspaper....letting the whole world know you carry cheap guns...how embarassing. And I thought we already decided they weren't "equal".

How I grow tired of this debate! The thread starter states he wants a pocket pistol, the R9 disappears in the pocket. It is the finest 9mm "pocket" pistol out there and the P11 and the R9 are not comparable in terms of quality, concealability or IMHO dependability. Buy the best equipment you can aford, I would rather have one top quality gun than two marginal quality guns. But then again who am I? :scrutiny: :neener:

R9

A little off topic. I have a Seecamp 32. It is a very well built gun but at 7 yards I can't hit anything, nota, zipp I can just get it on the target. I can't figure it out. I'm a pretty good shot with almost everthing. I shoot low 800s in my Bullseye matches I can always keep everything in the 9 ring at 15 yards even on a bad day. I have trouble pointing the little gun usually high. Anyway I have found a R9 at a local dealer for 850.00 and I wonder if it is more accurate. I find the trigger on the Seecamp heavy and hard to deal with.

Thanks

Welcome tjtucker :)

Sounds a very good deal. There is a video of Karl Rohrbaugh (I am awaiting a new copy) where he is getting shots in pretty tight at 21 feet and then pings a steel plate at 25 yds with ease.

Much depends on getting your own personal grip right on the R9 - once controlled it is capable of IMO, very acceptable results.

Drop over to the Rohrbaugh forum sometime - link below.

R9

Thanks for the replies. Have you guys ever shot a Seecamp in 32? I found it to be ok kind like a 5 inch 45 with factory loads. What does the R9 feel like?

tj - that is hard to explain and quantify. I really can't draw a parallel that works.

It is very ''sharp'' in recoil - not in fact comfortable - but that said - anyone who has shot a lightweight snub would fair little different. We are talking a snappy 9mm round in a very diminutive platform - no way can it be a comfy cruise!!!

Actually, I reckon thinking on it - it is perhaps really no worse than a P3AT in .380 - that is a lighter gun so - perhaps that is best comparison I can make. Don't get me wrong tho - R9 is emminently controllable with just a small amount of practice - no way need it be intimidating.

the R9 disappears in the pocket.

It does? See, now that is important to me. The P11 is great in the waistband with the optional belt clip, but for me, it is just a little too big to be a pocket gun. IF the R9 is really enough smaller to work as a pocket gun, that alone might make me want to buy one. 9mm power I can keep in my pocket without printing too much is a very attractive concept to me.

Hellbore - I have two pocket holsters and one belt-slide for R9. I prefer to have a largish pocket - jeans are too tight most times. If I have my Cabella's pants on - shorts or longs - the ones with good sized patch pockets - it is VERY easily ''lost''. I sometimes use a firm K&D pocket rig (leather) or sometimes too depending on circumstances and if pocket slightly less capacious - an Uncle Mikes #2. It can of course sit with no rig!

I use the belt slide too - that is ever so small and gun stays tight flat against body - very little indeed needed to cover that!!!

If you want pics of the leather I mentioned say - and I'll try and dig out the relevant ones.

Hellbore, Find one, holdone, inspect one, and if you can shoot one, you will buy one!  Maybe two!
