Rohrbaugh R9s versus Ruger LCP

then you want a kahr PM9

absolutely. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the PM9 isn't uncomfortable to shoot. It feels like a lower powered pistol like maybe a .32 or mostly like shooting a .380 PPK sized pistol.

Kahr has it figured out.

krs

i certainly think they do. love my pm9 and also have a k9 with about 3000 rounds through it. A super super handgun, but just to heavy compared to my pm9,. Sure makes one heh of a range gun though...

Small sub compact- guns, are almost always a compromise. I have a seacamp for 10-12 years, and a Pf-9. And I had a couple of Kahrs, also. Shoot them twice a year, clean them and put them away, carry if you are going to a wedding or a funeral. Carrying them for everyday protection, will insure in you're attending your own Funeral. They are not meant to be counted on as a means of reliable protection. Maybe a back up gun, maybe the PF-9, size, is a bit more functional, but even the 380 seacamp, recommends that the spring be changed once a year. I really don't want to have my gun serviced like a car. Actually the cars of today are better than that, as long as you change the oil every 6000 miles,, you should be good till the lease is up. I know sombody is going to scream that thier pocket pistol is as reliable as grannys apple pie. Just ask yourself this, Do you feel lucky -----. Because you want a Dirty Harry gun whenever possible. Or at least a 45, damm I feel PROTECTED, with my 45. I feel younger stronger, I feel like I can jump higher and run Faster. Now that's what it's all about, 44's and 45's, If you were stranded on a Desart Island would you wish for a Seacamp, or a whatever that other Ror gun is called, or would you wish for a nice large caliber weapon, (no rifles), pistols only in this dream. If you told the truth you are typing numbers like 44mag,45ACP,40S&W,357,454,50,lets be honest. You didn't grow up dreaming about a Roenwhatever, or a seacamp. They are for guys who are bored and want to spend a Grand on a toy gun, like the Iphone, I just use my phone for phone calls, so I don't want the everything package. The everything package always cost you more money, and dosen't do any 1 thing very well.

wow: Gym, u said alot, not sure in the hell alot of it made any sense either..

Any picture comparison of a Rohrbaugh R9 v. Kel-Tec PF-9 so we can see apples to apples what the money is buying?

I would really like a Rohrbaugh because of it's fine quality but for carry; only if it's better in size/weight.

You're right, back in the '50s all I really wanted was a pony. I already had a rifle and shotgun.

Of course the Seecamp wasn't invented until 1981 and that was a .25 ACP. I was in my 30s by then. The .32 was introduced in what, 1984? The Rohrbaugh came along much more recently.

I have several Kel-Tecs, a Rohrbaugh, and Kahrs to compare. I like all of them. The only similarity between the .32/.380 Kel-Tecs and the R9 is size. Sorta like comparing a VW bug to a Porshe. The Kahr and 9mm Kel-Tecs are much larger. Who cares if they "impound" your gun, after it saved your life? My point was simply that in its size range, there is no other gun of equivalent power, much less quality, besides the R9. I suggest that one should get the very best lifesaver possible to fit the circumstances. Frankly, if you're worried about losing a few hundred dollars in the event something happens to your lifesaving gun, you should rethink your priorities. The ambulance ride alone will cost you a couple of grand. If you think a .380 is the best, so be it. I think that if I can get a 9mm in a .380 size gun, that's far better.

Look at the one where the Rohrbaugh is on top of a Kahr MK40. The PF9 is basically the same size as the MK40. There you go.

Personally, after seeing that, I felt a little better about picking the MK40. All this time I'd been thinking paying a few hundred bucks more for a Rohrbaugh would have gotten me a significantly smaller gun. And the R9s still can't all handle 147 gr ammo without keyholing. That's a total deal-breaker, with me.

Still want a Seecamp, though.

aesthetically, rohrbaughs are just about the best looking mouseguns i've ever seen. a gunshop in my area carries them, so i've had a chance to hold one and look it over. some article i read compared them to a mercedes benz: they're pricey, but worth the cost. the thing is, you don't have to change the oil, or replace the brakes and rotors in a benz every 100 miles! if i'm going to pay over a grand for a gun, i shouldn't need to change a friggin' recoil spring after shooting a box of ammo.

Thank You, didn't know that.

I've heard this before; I have a friend who owns a Ducati Motorcycle - The service interval for adjusting the valves is like 3000 miles or something ridiculous. It's not like My old Honda Hurricane or a Harley but....I still want one of those too. :)

First you charge a thousand bucks for a gun and then have the stones to say the recoil spring should be changed every 100 rounds? Wow!

The PF9 is a bit bigger ...

... R9 (top left), PM9 (top right), P9 (bottom left), PF9 (bottom right)

nice photo. when one sees them all together, not a hell of alot of difference in any. All should fit in a front pocket. I suspect that little colt would weigh as much as all three combined. I sure like my PM9..

Not a problemo with either of these:

The Colt Mustang is basicly a SA version of the Colt Pony and the Colt Pocket Nine is basicly a 9mm version of the Colt Pony. All three guns are about the same size and will fit in the same holster. Even though I own the Rohrbaugh ...

"the recoil spring should be changed every 100 rounds"

Rohrbaugh says 250 for the new springs they've been selling. They're only $4.99 each.

John

JohnBT: now that does sound alot better. I could live with that .

The Rohrbaugh looks like a nice little pocket carry piece. But for the rest of us living in the real world that can't drop $1200 on one gun I can purchase:

- Glock 23 & Holster (primary carry) & HP ammo
- Ruger LCP & Holster (BUG) & HP ammo
- Remmington 870 & 00 Buckshot to defend the house

And still have enough left over for dinner.
