legacy38,
I have a Rossi '92 Carbine in .357 and a rifle in .44 Mag. Both bought around Jan 1996.
I refinished the stock of the carbine and stained it Walnut. It looks very nice after the Rossi opaque stain is removed.
The rifle had problems in the beginning. Cartridges wouldn't feed properly. It was a long time ago for my oldtimers diseased brain to remember, but it looked like I could have fixed it with a Dremel. I sent it back to get it done right. It took forever, but it has been fine ever since.
Also on the rifle the buttplate was way oversized and sharp enough to cause cuts. I filed it down to fit, rounded the edges, sanded and blued it. While I was at it I filed and rounded the lever. Mainly to make it more comfortable, but I rounded it in all areas and it looks very nice. I wish I had rounded the hammer while I had it apart to more closely copy the originals with their petite cross section and shallow grooves.
On the Carbine there was a problem with the fore end. The one that came with my gun was shaved down too much and there is a gap between it and the barel band. They sent me another for $17 including S&H. I don't know if it would have been a warranty item, but I had already refinished the original and didn't even try. The replacement fit nicely.
Believe it or not, after all that, I love them. I think the small '92 platform is much better suited to the pistol cartridges. I love the strength of the dual locking lugs.
In addition, Legacy, you won't have those problems with a used one since you'll get to see it before you buy it (mine were ordered). Also, your's should be a proven shooter.
I also slicked up both actions with auto rubbing compound. Gets 'em slicker than shooting 500 shots and in only one evening.
iamkris,
What's the deal with the safety? Are they putting on "lawyer safeties" now?
