I've wanted a Winchester M92 .25/20 for so long... Never could afford one though.
Finally came across an idea. I ran across an R92 .357 in a pawnshop, and they didn't want it any more.
We reached a price, and it went home with me. I ordered a small .25 caliber barrel that I could put on my Rossi.
I had found a .256 WinMag reamer a few years ago so I ended up with a 20" barrel on a carbine that now has a button magazine and a Lyman tang peep-sight. I also installed a small shotgun pad on the stock, so it won's skitter out across the linolium floor when I
place it against the wall next to the refrigerator.
It's ready all the time for a varmint to pop up in the garden outside the back door.
I have a box of 1k 86grain soft points Remingtons, and 10 or so boxes of Hornady 60grain soft point flat-tips, along with
a Lyman mold for 65grain round-nose boolits and an NOE mold for 85grain flat-point boolits.
cases are little hard to find, but I have 100 or so mixed cases to use when needed. .357 cases can be used to make more, if necessary.
I liked this carbine so much, that when I ran across a Trapper's Model Rossi .44Magnum, I had to get it too.
I carry a Ruger Blackhawk Flat-top .44Special 4 5/8" when out for a walk, so load for it. The dies will
load .44 Mangle'um ammo, so I now run light-load AND heavy through the carbine using maggie cases. The short-barrelled rifle
is like using a revolver that is easier to hit with. I have a 1/2 magazine on it now, so it's quite light.
I replaced the safety with a peep-sight from Stevesgunz.
As for the saddle-ring...I don't have one, 'cause I don't have a horse. They are iconic, but I don't like the
marks it leaves. If I rode horse, I would have one, even with the marks, as I'd use it.
Enjoy your carbine(s) and have fun,
Gene
