Pump Action (rossiusa.com)

anyone know if these are well made? I have an old family winchester, but it doesn't get out much, thinking a new one that I don't mind beating up might get more use, but - anyone seen one, or tried one?

Over on rossi-rifleman.com actual owners appear to like them. Very accurate and well made are the typical comments. Taurus owns Rossi now. The factory was moved and new machinery procured. The new R92 levers are said to be even better than the late production in the old factory (which were very good).

The Winchester M62a was discontinued in 1958.

However, Rossi use to market and sell a fairly good copy of it that was discontinued 5 or more years ago. Here are several for sale on Gunbroker.

The new model is not very attractive when compared to the old Rossi M62/Winchester knockoff, but I bet their profit margin is. Sometimes, less expensive manufacturing processes come at the expense of attractive design and good taste. As a case in point--Henry Arms built their entire product line on this theme.

Cheers

Rossi makes two models, tacticool and traditional blued/wood. Both are available on GunBroker today.

I had a Rossi copy in the mid 70's and it was a very accurate gun. Shot beaucoup squirrels with it back when I still had good eyesight.

I remember when Rossi brought these out back in the day that they were not very accurate. However they functioned fine. But this new trigger design is uglier than a Pontiac Aztek minivan.

The Rossi gallery gun appears to me to be a lever action adapted to pump action.
Not bad looking, except for the trigger guard. I have no doubt it is perfectly functional and I suspect the slide release is incorporated in it.

I have a leveraction Rossi Puma (1892) in .357 made for Legacy Sports International before LSI switched makers.
I have a pumpaction Taurus Model 72 in .22 mag; my sis had a Model 62 in .22 LR.
There is no reason why the Rossi gallery gun trigger guard could not look more traditional.

Maybe Rossi wanted to look different from the Henry pump action.

Rossi and Taurus both made copies of the classic .22 s,l,lr Model 62 Winchester pump action rifle as Model 62. Rossi also made a Model 59 in .22 Magnum.

What I have read is that when Rossi stopped making their Model 59 and 62, Taurus took over and continued them as their Model 72 and 62 with the addition of a firing pin block safety lever in the top of the bolt.

This Rossi Gallery Gun is a new design.
