round balls in 45 colt,anyone try this??

has anyone tried this .454 dia round balls loaded in 45 colt case? I did up some loads with greendot 5.5gn and shoots good about to try some at 5gr and 6gr of greendot. maybe work on squirrels and such, in my new rossi 92 16in barrel leveraction,loading then one at a time!

I've done it. A long time ago I sent my M6 to a gunsmith and had it reamed and rifled so I could shoot 45 Colt in the 410 barrel. The little round ball load is what I used for plinking. Fun stuff!

At the height of the ammo/reloading supply shortage I dug out some old .454 round balls and loaded them into .45LC cases.

My old Speer #10 had load data for powders I had, but I went with Trail Boss and worked up my own loads.

The loads were quite mild, but very accurate, as I recall, shot out of a 7.5" Super Black Hawk.

They worked good enough that I purchased some more round ball as there had not been any runs on BP stuff at my dealer.

Never done it for .45 Colt, but I have in .357, .38SPCL, .44 Mag, .30-30, and .35 Rem...

Low doses of Red Dot work for me...

Here's a .310" round ball tapped into an unresized .30-30 case smeared with Alox...

Heck on varmints in the garden...

I tried .454 LRB using Blackpowder and Herco (like Unique) in 45 colt with Alox on top. Note that on Blackpowder, a wad and ball go on the powder, no air gap. I left the ball at the mouth with the Herco. Both worked, no accuracy tests, just some plinkin'.

yep I found that 5gr of greendot with .454 round ball in the 45 colt shootin out of my rossi leveraction shot really good this morning I also tried 6gr but they had a lot of fliers but with 5gr it was a very nice group. so i'm thinkin maybe try 4.8gr to see if I can get dime size groups at 25yrds. salmoneye how was your groups with the 30/30 with round balls??

Dad tried stuff like that- round balls in the 45 Colt, and other calibers. He even use to load air-gun pellets in primed 22-250 cases for indoor shooting

Never tried it in 45 Colt but have loaded them in 45/70 with good results. IIRC I used 2400 for powder

Never done it with .45 Colt but I have loaded .36 caliber balls in .38 special. It was a fun plinking load, I don't see why you cant do it with .45 colt or even 44 special.

used some buckshot pellets from my .30-30 was fun to play with and much cheaper than shells. but then i got a ton of free cast .310 bullets and used those to plink
