Round Butt style grips for GP100

So one of the big advantages to Ruger's grip frame/peg design SHOULD be that a grip can be virtually any size/shape. So do why do all the grips out for the GP100 (including the otherwise excellent Hogue monogrip) come in a big ugly square butt shape?

I want a "combat" grip shaped like the SP101 Hogue Monogrip. Are my only options pricey custom wood? :banghead:

Interesting question that I have also thought about. The wood Hogue grip can
readily be modified by giving it a shape like a "bobtail" on 1911's. Had a 629
that came from Hogue (the wood grip) already shaped that way so modified
a wood Hogue on my 686 (which has a rounded grip frame - the Hogue was
a round to square conversion as was the one on the 629). Also thinned the
grip at the same time to better fit my hand. Now to get around to refinishing.
Herrett's does make some grips that are more rounded for the GP100 but the
catch is the gun has to be shipped for custom fitting. They claim there are too
many dimensional variations in the grip stud (??). Wonder how other firms make
grips for GP-100s?

good question.

You could always buy a large wood grip and whittle it down yourself.

The same can be done with rubber but its more work. You have to freeze it first and sand on it while its frozen. When it starts to warm up, you can't sand it anymore and you have to put it back in the freezer.

There is a set of factory "compact" grips & I prefer a smooth grip !

The added asthetics of wood panels just adds iceing on the cake !!!!

I like the factory compact grips except for one thing. They don't fill in enough just behind the trigger guard. I found my SP101 with those style grips a little "painful" with full house magnums because I kept getting bit right there (I have really small "hobbit" hands here). That's why I put Hogues on my SP. The Hogues for the SP are "round butt style" though.
