A while back I posted about a first model Russian S&W revolver I picked up. I requested and have just received a factory letter from Roy Jinks. The gun was shipped on March 23, 1872 to M.W. Robinson, New York City. It is listed as a 1st Model Russian and Mr. Jinks confirms that is a transition variation.

Neat! Pics are in order!

I have some Smiths I would very much like to have "lettered" but just haven't taken the time and money to do so yet.

I imagine MW Robinson would be proud.;)

Here is a pic of the revolver. Finish is gone but mechanically pretty nice. Only thing I can find wrong with it is a broken barrel latch spring. Easy fix.

I talked to Roy a couple years ago on what I thought was a Transition Model --I was wrong. Glad for you that you were righ. Congrats!

grsjax , Pretty neat. Nice when you can get a original owners name. Maybe you can find out who M.W. Robinson, in New York City was!

I once had a Colt SAA lettered shipped in 1910 to a Wyeth Hardware in St Joseph Mo. to the attention of Wm. Wyeth. I called long distance info and got their number. When they answered the phone I asked to speak to him. She out me on hold............................. then Wm. Wyeth picked up. He said: "oh that was my grandfather , I'm the 3rd. We don't sell guns anymore and didn't keep records of who we sold them to". It was a 38 Colt caliber found buried in a cave floor in Madera Chihuahua Mexico.

That is what really keeps me interested in old guns. The history attached to them. It is always a thrill to learn where a gun has been and who might have used it.
