I bought some factory rubber grips for the CZ 75. The local gunshop put them on for me. Now there is a bulge on both sides about an inch from the top and the mags don't drop right out like they used to.
What is the deal?

Also, can I but brass screwdrivers (phillips) and some new screws from CZ?.

None of my CZ75's had drop free mags due to the Main spring shield which is arched. Upon removing that, they should drop free. Or you can get a straight main spring shield.

I've not had that experience with SEVERAL sets of factory rubber grips on my CZs. I have had that problem with other brands. Pachmyars are terrible in that way.

Take them off and reinstall them. They may have done something stupid putting them on. (If they're factory, they should look exactly like factory hard plastic grips, but just made of softer material.)

If you had drop-free before and don't have it now, you can remove some of the rubber from the inside of the grips with a razor blade or dremel (with an abrasive wheel), and get them dropping free again.

If they didn't drop free before, follow the advice about and bend the mag brake.

If you want new screws order hogue replacement screws from brownell's. They are slotted and much nicer than factory screws. As for the grips I have factory rubber grips also and my mags drop free. Do like Walt said and take them back off, something is rubbing. Mark

You should be able to put grips on yourself. You'll need to take them off from time to time for a good cleaning. Just get a set of hollow ground gunsmith screwdrivers to keep from buggering up the screws.

The "bulge" an inch from the top sounds like a thumb rest. What kind of grips are these? I know the Pachmyr grips have a slight thumb rest.

The reason the mags won't drop free is either because of the CZ "mag brake" or because the screws on the grips are tightened all the way down. I have a "drop free" mag brake on one of my CZ's, but the mags still stick unless I back off the grip screws a couple turns. It takes a little doing every time I take off the grips to find the right amount to tighten them when I put them back on. Too tight and the mags don't want to come out. Too loose and the grips aren't secure enough. There is a "sweet spot" for me though. Just takes a little work to find.

You can remove, straighten, and reinstall the mag brake in 5 minutes with common household tools.

From photos that I've seen, I think the CZ rubber grips come a little closer to the backstrap than do their plastic grips. Has anyone else noticed this?

I saw a post that Uncle Mike's grips aren't too well made. Are the rubber CZ grips better? I want something nicer than the plastic factory grips that came on mine.

Doesn't Hogue make nice wooden grips for CZ-75's? I think I saw some on a CZ-85 in an article in, "Handloader" about a year ago. Nice cocobolo wood.

I've got both the hard plastic and soft rubber factory grips (I've got them for the compact models, too.)

They are physically identical, except for the materials of which they are made.

Hogues are different and wrap around the front, with finger grooves. Pachmyars are different, have a metal plate in the grip, are heavier, and can interfere withe the mags.

If you want wood grips, you need to visit the CZ Forum. We have two resident grip makers there who have a variety of wonderful wood grips. (I prefer rubber.)

No, Walt, he's talking about these Hogue grips (pau ferro):

But, yes, I agree Hakan Pek and Sam Barbakov (Omega) will give you something more distinguishing. I have Sam working on some black ebony grips for my CZ 75B.

Thanks, guys. I've seen the Omega and Hakan Pek grips on the CZ forum. Just assessing all the possibilities before I decide.

Probably will get the stainless CZ-75B when it arrives. May put wood on it; synthetic ones on my polycoated one.

I have Uncle Mike's rubber grips on one CZ 75. I really like them. They are slim and comfortable. I don't have any complaints on the quality.

I have a set of Houge wood grips on the other gun. They are fine as well.

The only grips I didn't like were the factory CZ grips on my Turkish Mil contract 75B. The large thumb rest was not comfortable.

Thats a big Ten-Rodger on the Turk contract grips, look and feel like they came off a 24 buck airsoft gun. This would not be so bad if the material was not so thin you cant sand, file and polish them to fit.

I once owned a Springfield P9(CZ75 clone), and I also installed Pachmayr rubber grips on it, as they were the only aftermarket grips available at the time(1991), and I didn't want to get the original wood grips scratched up from carry. As I remember, if I tightened the grip screws all the way down, that made the grip panels bulge into the magazine well and drag against the side of the magazine. There would also be a slight gap between the frame and the grips around the edges. I just backed the grip screws out until the grips fit flush around the edges again, and the mags would drop free. Try that, and if it works and you still like the grips, get a small bottle of BLUE(low-strength) Loc-Tite thread-locking compound from the hardware store and put one drop on your grip screws, then re-assemble and re-set your screw depth as before. ABSOLUTELY do not use RED(high-strength) or BLACK(permanent) Loc-Tite, those screws will not come out EVER unless you take a blowtorch to them if you do.
