How are the little Ruger’s Politically Correct 9x19mm Parabellum NATO automatic carbines?

I just purchased one of the state compliant ones (Illinois).

Bottom line, are they trustworthy enough for social work?

Thank you and have a great day!

Very reliable. I have one and quite like it. I wish it were a couple pounds lighter and with reduced recoil due to some kind of locked breech, but as a blowback (like most 9mm carbines) but it’s not bad at all. Pleasant to shoot and lighter than WWII examples like the Suomi.

I want a wooden stock for mine to complete the look. Not prepared to spend almost as much as I did on the gun itself though…

I've owned one for 2+ years, more than pleased with mine. It's accurate, reliable and when broken down in its case (separate purchase) is very surreptitious. I use the Ruger mags and never had a stoppage.
Check out Riomouse's custom case using a Rigid tool case.

.

I was thinking about painting the stock brown using Krylon's Camouflage Fusion brown paint. I used it on a Mini 14 synthetic stock years ago and it has held up really well.

My Ruger PC charger and PC 9 carbine will shoot loads that none of my other guns will cycle properly. 30 years ago my very first reloading attempt was ~500 x 9mm rounds using the books starting load. Nothing else would cycle those under powered anemic 9mm rounds until I bough my PC Carbine.

I had a brace on my PC Charger and my free tax stamp just came through so I can put a folding stock on it now. I have a Sig minimalist stock on order.

I have written many times about the positive experiences with my Ruger PC Carbine. It has been 100% from day one and is a family favorite. I did a complete M-Carbo upgrade, mostly for fun, and it actually made it shoot better.

The 9MM out of a rifle increases the velocity and effects bullet performance. Lucky Gunner did a video series on this that is quite good.

Thanks, gang.

I have a decent amount of Glock 15 round mags.

Do you think 15 rounds would be enough for defense if I were to add a buttstock magazine pouch holding two more 15 rounders?

Sadly I can’t really buy any larger capacity magazines for the gun at this time.

This is a great pouch:

If 45 rounds can't solve a home SD situation, then it probably would not matter what weapon you had. I think you would be fine.

This is the same rifle I left with my family during the COVID lockdowns. We have a house in an unincorporated area of the desert. The county sheriff does respond, but it usually takes about an hour. I felt more than comfortable leaving my family armed with basically the same set up when I had to go into town to work for the week.

I like the shorter magazines in the rifle as the longer ones tend to shake around a lot.

You have a solid set up.

I bought my PC Carbine right after they came out.
It’s definitely a keeper snd a winner. It’s one of my favorite long guns. It has never malfunctioned and always reliable with every type of 9mm ammo I have tried.
For those that think a comp is worthless on a pistol caliber carbine, don’t believe it. I installed an Odin Works Atlas 9 compensator on it. It helps with muzzle rise and felt recoil.
I also added some goodies from MCARBO. Shock Buffer pad, metal recoil spring retainer, pin kits, cheek pad, extended bolt stop. I added an Sig Romeo 5 red dot on an American Defense low QD mount.

Love this carbine.

Thanks, yes that is the pouch I am eyeing. Big fan of Specter gear.

I just remembered (somewhere in my garage) I do own one 19 round magazine (OEM 17 rounder with +2 OEM base pad) that would work nicely in the mag well, with two 15 round G19 mags in the buttstock as emergency spares.

I've got the 40 S&W version of it. Very fun gun to shoot, pretty accurate. I changed out the horrible Ruger trigger assembly with a Volquartzen unit, along with adding a Romeo 5 RDS, and love shooting it suppressed with my sub-sonic handloads along with one of my Form 1 suppressor's.
But, I still like my Sub 2k PCC better than the Ruger!

The only problem I have with mine …is that it’s real fun to shoot, and real hard to put down!

In other words: you will be buying a lot more 9mm.

I went with the Magpul stock (~$120, lighter, and easier on my arthritic wrist). Romeo 5 or similar size red dot is a practical addition to a very practical little rifle.

I bought the Magpul model as plinker for the range. With a red dot, it's plenty accurate out to 50 yards. It's somewhat of a niche rig. It doesn't offer the ballistics to hunt with it. For a pistol caliber to hunt with, I'd go .357 or .44 mag. With handloads, I get 100-200 fps over what's offered from a pistol length barrel.

Thanks, gang.

Does the 9mm from a carbine length barrel have enough power to be a valid self defense rifle?

What conditions will it be used in?

Farm country?
Suburban-close?
Suburban-spread out?
Urban?

What type of dwelling?
Number of occupants?
Proximity to neighbors?

Are we talking in-home defense or perimeter defense against an approaching “zombie horde”?
Bug in? Bug out?

Whole lot of variables to consider.

I really like your Sig folding stock and would have replaced my Sig Folding brace with one like yours if I could have found it. I did find a sale on the heavy duty Mid West Machine folding 1913 adapter for an AR tube and put on this CTR . I like to fold to right as I moved cocking handle to the left . I have had the Charger since 2019 and never had any Malfs , even with the Korean 50 round drum mags (I have two) and the 5 Glock 32 round mags I have . I also like it fits Glock 9mm mags and use those from various model especially when carrying same. pistol. IF the lousy new Oregon regulation becomes law , for real, thanks to a trade with Pat Riot I have lots of G26 10 round mags which also fit nicely and would have to be used on public ranges and in vehicles with my CCW . My Charger is about 4-6" accurate ( the smaller groups with with the 147 grain bullet ) at 100 yards and the Vortex Spitfire 1x works well it has a 4 moa dot . I have recently added a HK type diopter front and rear set with a 6" sight radius as back up sights under the Vortex Prism. Also it seems like the Ecco Machine original Canine with five baffles and no wipe enjoys living on the end now that it is a registered SBR , it seems hearing safe to most folks , not as quiet as the bigger, longer cans , but enough and very easy to keep clean and short and light. . I think I might add the MCarbo stuff that strengthen factory parts, my trigger is ok for a PCC . I am sure you would be deader than a mackerel if hit in com at 200 yards in a emergency situation with a 9mm , especially the 147 grain HP .
