Ruger’s PC Carbine?

Nice set up. Did the Backpacker reduce the weight of the carbine?

I was going to add an extended mag release and bolt handle and decided against both. Too easy to bump the release with an extension. I have considered adding a heavier spring to the mag release but I haven’t researched that yet.

Just to add to what Jonah77 posted, per Ruger's website, the standard PC Carbine weighs 6.8lbs.

The Magpul Back Packer stocked one weighs 6.2lbs.

I find the balance to be a little better with the Magpul Backpacker stock (MBs). Also I like the butt plate on the MBs as it doesn't snag on my clothing when shouldering the rifle, like the standard rubber butt plate does.

M*Carbo offers a whole bunch of bits and pieces to "upgrade" the PC Carbine. However, my recommendation is to shoot it as is before buying any "upgrages." Other than the stock, I like mine just fine as is.

Another negative: Be careful taking the action out of the stock. IIRC, it has at least 1 non-captive pin in the trigger group. If you are not careful that pin will fall out and disappear into your carpeting.

The trigger group is held in the receiver with two pins just like the 10/22. These may fall out. Tandemkross makes pins with a ball detent to prevent this

There is also a pin that retains the bolt lock. This pin may fall out if you push the bolt lock up while the trigger group is out of the gun. Tandemkross makes pins with the ball detent for the mag release on the 10/22 that are the same diameter and can be shortened to replace this pin.

You have to shorten the TK pin to use it for the bolt lock in the PC Carbine. I've done this to both of my PC Carbines.

This thread prompted me to get some trigger time with the Ruger today. I took it out to the range and did some close range shooting as well as some informal plinking at 100 yards. It is so much fun I ended up shooting 200 rounds. The Ruger ran great and it had no hiccups. I forgot how easy it is to hit with at 100 yards. Lifting the dot to the collar bone area of a silhouette target, drops rounds right in to the A-Zone. I removed the butt-spacer when I got home and it made it feel even more handy. It fits my wife better as well.

These are great rifles and I am glad to see others enjoy them as well.

Same here, I put 50 WWB 124 gr FMJ through mine today. I shot 50 off hand at just under 20 yards. Not an ideal distance for rifle shooting, but it was all I could get in today.. :)

Stay safe.

I installed TK pins with balls on mine, because I have to disassemble the Rugers all the time, and I was tired of dealing with the pins. They don't sell the thin pin specifically, but their 10/22 product fits after shortening.

I’ve had a Ruger PC carbine for several years. It has been totally reliable with Glock and Magpul mags and every type of ammo I have subjected it to so far. I find the iron sights awkward but accurate. I put a section of ladder rail cover over the receiver picatanny rail to prevent damage to the rail and my fingers or arms.

The only downside is the weight.

You can go through some ammo pretty quickly becasue the rifle is so easy and fun to shoot at steel plates.
