Ruger’s PC Carbine?

I really like your Sig folding stock and would have replaced my Sig Folding brace with ine like yours if I could have found it. I did find a sale on the heavyduty Mid West Machine folding 1913 adapter for an AR tube and pot on this CTR . I like to fold to right as I moved cocking handle o the right . I have had the Charger since 2019 and never had any Malfs , even with the Korean 50 round drum mags (I have two) and the 5 Glock 32 round mags . I also like it fits Glock 9mm mags and use those from various model especially when carrying same. pistol. IF the lousy new Oregon regulation becomes law , for real, thanks to a trade with Pat Riot I have lots of G26 10 round mags which also fit nicely and would have to be used on public ranges and in vehicles with my CCW . My Charger is about 4-6" accurate (more with with the 147 grain bullet ) at 100 yards and the Vortex Prism 1x works well. I have recently added a HK type diopter front and rear set with a 6" sight radius as back up sights under the Vortex Prism. Also it seems like the Ecco Machine original Canine with five baffles and no wipe enjoys living on the end now that it is a registered SBR , it seems hearing safe to most folks , not as quiet as the bigger, longer cans , but enough and very easy to keep clean and short and light. . I think I might add the MCarbo stuff that strengthen factory parts, my trigger is ok for a PCC . I am sure you would be deader than a mackeral if hit at 200 yards in a emergency situation with a 9mm , especially the 147 grain HP .

Glock 26 mags are great for the PC Carbine, especially if shooting prone or from a bench.

EDIT: By the way, I think that trade worked out great for both of us. But I should have kept 1 or 2 of those mags for my Ruger.

One of the reasons I like the Ruger PCC is the assurance I can hit a target close in or 100 yds away. I'm 71 next month and with my old eyes I can have a good or not so good day with a pistol, especially at a distance. The carbine with a Vortex Spitfire optic mounted is bang on every time from 3 to 100yds,maybe more,I've never tried. I like that versatility

Thanks, guys. I have been doing research on accesories and so far want the following:

-Aimpoint H2 micro red dot (already own this) with quick detach mount.
-Catalyst Arms Hardpoint M-Lok adapter for the front picatinny rails so I can mount my Surefire M300 in an Arisaka offset mount to place the light directly in line with the barrel on the left side of the rifle.
-Specter Gear 2 point Recon sling with forward QD swivel to interface with the Hardpoint QD cup
-And last the Specter buttstock magazine pouch which I’ll keep two G19 mags in for 30 spare rounds.

Here is some good reading while you are waiting on your accessories:

There is also a nice video imbedded for all of us non-readers.

I added this hand guard to mine and prefer it to the factory hand guard that came with the gun. All of the M-loc slots are helpful as well.

I would say you have some solid choices for the rest of your additions.

Post some pics once you get it kitted up!

My only gripe with the new version is the peep sight halfway down the barrel. I've the older, non take down version, with the peep back on the receiver, the way God intended.
But a Ruger makes great sense as a home defense arm, easier to shoot accurately, compared to a handgun.
The ability to use common magazines is a real plus.

Here's some ballistic numbers for 9mm from various length barrels. The Lucky Gunner post linked above us a good one, IMO.

The peep on the barrel is very usable, at least for me. I have the 19100 basic model.

I actually put a pistol red dot on the barrel of my second Ruger PC Carbine using a Tandemkross Shadow Mount so that they shoulder the same.

Those are Taccom carbon fiber handguards.

Does the 9mm from a carbine length barrel have enough power to be a valid self defense rifle?

Doing a little mythbusting around 2002-2005 if I recall correctly, while taking advantage of annually changing hunting regulations in Kansas, I hunted deer with a Glock 19 and a Hi-Point Carbine in 9mm. No arguments from any participants, unwilling as we might expect them to have been.

We can also point to the continued successful deployments of MP5 variants, and other subguns.

Not the answer to all questions, but a good answer to most civilian defensive scenarios.

Thanks for the help, gang.

How much noise does the 9mm PC carbine make compared to a 16” AR? Does it produce less of a report?

about half as loud as the 5.56 16" in volume of blast . In DB I would imagine a 16"9mm is around 140 DB from a bare barrel with supersonics, maybe 137DB with sub sonics . Before I had a suppressor on my charger , which has a 6" barrel BTW , I used a KAW Valley Linear comp, and it was remarkably quieter :) . Now I use a little 5 baffle suppressor and with a little ablative and with no or a worn wipe it is high 120s DB with 147 grain 1050 FPS subsonics and seems ok to bare ears for most people .

Thank you. Unfortunately Illinois is not suppressor friendly and moving is not an option right now. I had to resort to buying the neutered non-threaded state compliant version of this gun.

Got one before Oregon goes that same route. Mine doesn’t seem any louder than my .22 mag with 16” barrel maybe even less. My brother in law shot mine and wants one now. Very entertaining to shoot

Good for you! I don’t see how you could be disappointed with it unless you really got a lemon.

Best of luck to you.

I had one and sold it. Didn't like the feel of it, too heavy for what it is and the iron sights seem to have been designed to be replaced with a red dot sight. I have a PSA AR9. Priced comparable to the Ruger, lots of aftermarket for it and the ergonomics work for me.
Also had a KelTec Sub 2000 and absolutely hated it.

Love mine. Bought it when they first came out and let two buddies try it. Both bought one of their own within a few weeks.

Zero bobbles with Glock magazines from 10 to 32 rounds, ammo has been 115-124-147 gr fmj and 124 +P and 127 gr +P+ Win SXT.

Using a Ridgid 20” carry case and Kaisen foam that I cut-to-fit, a handy and tough little carry box can easily be made for one. (Idea from another THR member a few years back.)

Stay safe.

My wife bought one a couple years ago, and we absolutely love the thing. Put a vortex venom 3moa red dot on it, and grabbed a few Magpul Glock mags, and have had an absolute blast with it ever since. It's been 100% reliable with Glock or Magpul brand mags, and any 9mm ammo we've put through it. I'd trust it for social work.

Adding a Magpul Backpacker stock to mine made it a keeper. I was tempted to trade it off before that.
Nice set up. Did the Backpacker reduce the weight of the carbine?

Biggest negative? The mag release is easy to bump (dropping mags) with your off hand or body.
I was going to add an extended mag release and bolt handle and decided against both. Too easy to bump the release with an extension. I have considered adding a heavier spring to the mag release but I haven’t researched that yet.

Just got a luggage scale, and want to actually weigh some of my carbines. What they are supposed to weigh and what they actually weigh may vary.
Jonah is on to something.

Another negative: Be careful taking the action out of the stock. IIRC, it has at least 1 non-captive pin in the trigger group. If you are not careful that pin will fall out and disappear into your carpeting.
