I must be crazy but I had to have this one. Came across a Ruger #1 in .357 mag, California Highwayman's Assoc limited edition. Doesn't even look as if it has ever been fired. Came with Ruger rings too.

Seems they punched out 2000 of these, 1800 to the highwaymen, 200 overruns. Anyway, I traded a standard grade Browning BL-22 and a few hundred clams for this one.

I hope she shoots nice, seems to be a well made firearm :)

Figured I'd share few pictures with the fine folks here at THR.

nice score! a friend owned the only #1 i've ever shot. really nice rifle. one may find it's way into my hands some day.

Wow, that is nice! I really like shooting the .357 out of rifles. I will have to keep an eye out for one of these.

Very nice... When I read the Title I thought the gun was mistaken for a #3. Never knew #1 was made in 357. That's a rare bird I think.

Congrats.

Just for the sake of accuracy, I'd point out that it is the California Highway Patrolman's Assoc

They are our State Police. A highwayman, would be a horse mounted robber or brigand. :)

nice

nice gun, Sir.

in a combo with a S&W 327 snubbie
and a bandoleer ... that would be a nice rig
for the outdoors.

I too never knew the No. 1 was ever chambered in .357 Mag! I assume it also then will fire .38 Spcl. Inexpensive to feed, fun to shoot. That is a great find. Congrats.

Looks fantastic! I have always loved the classic lines of the Ruger No. 1 rifle.

Wow! Really nice gun! I am definitely looking forward to a range report!

That's my favorite version of the #1, with the Alexander Henry forearm and barrel mounted swivel band.

Should be a ton of fun to shoot!

Is it bad that my first thought was that'd be a perfect candidate to ream out to 357 MAX?

Either way, beautiful rifle. Hope it shoots as good as it looks!

gotboostvr,
That was my exact thought and was reading all the replies to see if anyone else thought the same. I don't know if the run of 2000 in that combo makes it highly collectable or sought after. I would definitely be putting some rounds downrange.

Would reaming it out to .357 Max possibly in any way lessen the rifle's accuracy potential for the original chambered cartridge? If so, I would advise against that idea. That neat little rifle is way to cool to let someone even think of doing that damage. What a beauty!

Ditto. It is far too beautiful and authentic to grind on, no less alter in any way (IMO of course).
What a great find and a real eye pleaser. Congrats to the OP for the find and good luck with it regardless of how you choose to treat it.

#1 357 to the range today

I installed a pretty nice Bushnell Legend 3-9x40 on the #1 yesterday, then got it to the range for a quick session today. I laser sighted in through my home office window on my neighbor's fence which is about 60 yards according to my rangefinder. I was amazed to find out it shot 12" low at 50 yards, maybe I selected a too small O-ring for the laser boresight tool, I'm usually within a couple inches or so.

Anyway, once I got the scope more or less dialed in with live fire I went for a group at 50 yards. Ammo was gunshow 38 special reloads. Looking at the target I see 3 distinct POIs that leads me to believe either that box of ammo has 3 flavors of ammo in it or I have 3 flavors of flinch, LOL. In any event, the "strays" were part of the 5-shot group, then I started nailing the bulls eye every time.

The rifle is truly a joy to shoot, I think if keep working it I can get more out of me. I'm really glad I bought this rifle, it's just a plain good gun.
