Picked this up from Davidsons to be used as a fun gun. I have several revolvers in .357, so I thought, what the heck, why not. It shoots like a dream. A little punch from .357, 38 special shoots like a 22. No problem chambering either .357 or 38. I was shooting on an indoor range, so I couldn't see how it handles long range, but I imagine it's good out to about 150 yards or so. Iron sights are a little hard on my 52yo eyes, so I will probably put a 1-4 x 20 on it. Ruger supplies the rings for the built in base, so that saves a few bucks. I'm very happy with the limited time I spent with it. I have no unrealitic expectations from this gun, there wont be any expensive free float stocks added, no trigger upgrades, etc. It is what it is, a fun little carbine, that's all I want.

Jealous! Looks like a great rifle, and hard to go wrong with a Ruger. I love the idea of more punch than a .22 without the full-blown centerfire (rifle) cost for plinking, since I dont reload.

I handled one of these in a local shop not long ago... wow, I wanted it, but couldn't allocate the $$ at the time. It felt really nice and handy. With a little scope on there, it seems to me like it would be really fun, and not all that expensive to shoot. I'd classify it (for me anyway) as one of those, "I don't know what I would really do with it other than have fun, but I want it anyway" rifles. :)

When you get tired of it, please send it my way. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy!

RD, the rile was very reasonably priced. MSRP is $929, cost to me was $576 out the door. I'm sure that they are even cheaper elsewhere, but I like the one click shopping at Davidsons, plus the lifetime Guarantee (certainly not to say Ruger stands behind their products regardless), about the price of a decent handgun.

Love mine. Very pleased with how well it handles and shoots. Wife calls it the carnival gun. Everyone in the family loves it.

Always glad to read about others being pleased with theirs.

Looks like great fun there. My pop has been jonesing for something like that for a bit, and the more he sees of them the more he likes em. Sooner or later one is gonna follow him home!

I hate to be a killjoy! But i had a good look at one a few months ago, and wasnt impressed with the finish.
I had one in 44 mag, wood stock, and loved it! Great finish and fit!

Now i wish they made the 77/357 in wood!

I was concerned about that too in a $576 rifle, but I am very impressed with the fit and finish. Its certainly not a $1,500 hunting rifle, but those have issues too. So far, mine has been perfect.

The 77/357 uses the 77/44 stock. So if you want a 77/357 with a wood stock, find a 77/44 wood stock and swap it out. I did, twice (consecutive numbers:evil:)

I have one. Fit and finish is perfect on mine. Shoots like a dream. Feeds round nose 38 special like it was made for them. Bolt is easy to take apart and inspect once you catch on to the cotter pin trick...real easy. Firing pin would be as easy to replace as an AR's.

Love it. Mine too will be a fun gun with perhaps a varmit or two should that ever become an issue. I wish it had the same sights as the GSR though. That's the only thing I'd change. Looking for a scope having exhausted an aftermarket peep sight search.

I seem to flip back and forth between this and a Marlin 1894c in 357 mag. I would also consider a contender barrel. I am looking forward to some kind of rifle in 357. I have had stories about how the 357 goes up in power out of a long barrel. I am interested in learning more about it.

Yup. It gets right to the bottom end of .30-30 power levels.

HoosierQ; Did you see this?

I have the NECG sight on my 77/22. LOVE it! Had to put a taller front on it but other than that, it don't get much better.

I really like the this new offering. It looks like it'd be ideal for young shooters with the LOP adjustable stock. If someone makes an aftermarket peep for it becomes available, I'm buying one for each of my nephews.
