ruger 10/22 factory mag release

Greetings,

Can anyone tell me if the newer original factory equipped extended magazine release will drop into the older 10/22's with the flush fit unit? If so, are there any 'complications'? I vaguely remember some issues with the early aftermarket ones, e.g., interfering with other controls and such?
