I seem to recall (but maybe it's a faulty memory) that Ruger chambered the 10/22 in .22WMR and was going to offer it in .17HMR. What ever happened to those rifles? I don't even see the .22WMR on the website. Nobody seems to be offering an autoloader in .17, so I assume that's a failed attempt.

In short, I'm looking for an accurate .17HMR that won't break the bank (I'm thinking $400 or less) that has either excellent sights or is drilled and tapped. I'm not a fan of Red Ryder sights or dovetails.

What I'd REALLY like is the peep sight Savage offers on their target .22's on a .17HMR.

Savage model 93 .17hmr, usually in a package deal with a scope, I took the trash scope off and put a nice low end Leupold....helluva little rifle, kill lots of big hogs with it all the time and I got so many hogs to kill.

The 10 22 WMR is becoming a bit of a rare beast. Right now a local shop has a model 96 in 17 HMR, takes the same rotary mag (9+1) but it's a lever action. Pretty cool actually and right at $400. IIRC barrels are the same as 10 22, so you could change that out and go 22 WMR. You'd still have less in it than a 10 22 WMR and could shoot either 17 HMR or 22WMR depending on configuration.

Thats twice the price the OP is looking for.
Holy Crap! that's high...... I never looked that far into the post because I'm not interested in the rifle but...smack me :what: Is that really the value of an old 10/22mag???

This looks like a job for "Rimfire Central" board there are folks that worship the 10/22 over there. I learned enough from them to get the darned 10/22 tinker bug.....cough cough hack hack sneeze!

From what I understand regarding the recall a couple years ago, the .17hmr isn't going to be able to be used in any semiauto rifles, they will have to be bolt or lever action, a fixed action.

I have a friend with a Savage bolt in 17hmr, got one of those funky looking stocks on it, but it is a tack driver.
