I was looking at the hogue overmold stocks on midway, and they have a rubber overmold, and a nylon overmold. I've handled the rubber overmold at cabelas before. Is the nylon overmold a regular hard plastic all over? Are there any functional reason to get one rather than the other?

Hopefully someone who has one will speak up and confirm or deny this, but the reason I've not gone with the rubber version is that I've read that it flexes when you say... attach a sling and wrap the sling tightly around your forearm for stability.

Of course if you don't plan to use a sling, this would be a non-issue.

WARNING;
FYI-if you try to mount a bi-pod on it, the stud will pull out when it's tightened!
just a heads up...

I have the hogue overmold stock with a tactical solutions 16 1/5 inch barrel which makes it a vvvverrry light rifle. The inside is made of a hard plastic. I went this route because I simply liked the way it felt. Come to find out that on a very hot day if your sweating alot it will not slip in your hands. If does flex if you put a lot of pressure in the fore-arm or if you use a sling very tight when shooting off hand. But I just train myself to not squeeze or tighten to hard when shooting. I can hit skeet traps at 230 yds consistently with this get up using a 2-9x40 bushnell banner. On the hard plastic stocks by other manufacturers I can not comment since I do not own one but my buddies like them simply because they can spray paint them any color they choose. They also like the hogue stock.

Houge overmolded stock are really nice. I have a rubber Houge overmolded stock on a Ruger 77MK II and it works nicely for me. Check Mid South Shooters Supply because their Houge stocks are usually cheaper than Midway's.

i own a hogue rubber overmolded stock and it does flex a little in the forarm but only if i use my hands never had a problem with it flexing with a standing sling around the arm hold as for the bipod yanking out the front swivel ive never had that happen and i tighten my bipod vigorously to ensure it stays put

i dont have a problem with the slight forarm flex because i free floated my barrel

I have the overmolded on one of my 10-22's I like it proper length and trouble free.
I used to have it on my Clarke reworked 10-22 and it was a tack driver with it, I've since put a Boyd stock on that rifle.

tyler500/Dimis,
I must have got a bad batch then.
I put one on my first 10/22 build and the sling swivel stud pulled out the first time i took it out, i returned it for another and the same thing happened so gave up and exchanged that one for a Fajuin.
to bad cuase i really liked the way it looked and felt. glad they worked for you though.
