Ruger 22 mag. mini revolver?

OK, so Tom Gresham is in town to do his radio show from a local gun store which is reopening after a fire.
He did an interview with a local radio talk show host. My nephew called me and told me that Mr. Gresham spoke of a new revolver from Ruger. It will be chambered in 22 wmr and will fall between the NAA minis and J frame Smiths in size.
Has anyone else heard about this gun. Mr. Gresham supposedly has one in his possession. I will visit the lgs that he is broadcasting from Sunday. Hopefully he will have it with him.

Rumor at best, but i hope it's true.

I have been complaining for years that NAA should make a 6 shot frame. It could easily be done while staying significantly smaller than a j frame.

The same revolver could probably be made in a 5 shot 32 H&R to boot.

I have heard they are going to bring back the SP-101 in .22LR with an 8 shot capacity. Maybe they are going to do a magnum version. I would certainly buy that.

NAA tried a 32 prototype. It was a flop.

Their topbreak 22 Mag flopped also.

So a mini 22 mag from Ruger might be fun.

The 32 HR J from SW - the 431s or 432s are really light and easy to carry guns but not in production.

500 22 magnum topbreaks made it to the market. They were designated "The Ranger" by NAA. They then said that they would not be producing any more due to high cost of production.

I will be interested if it is a DA, but not if SA.
SP101 is not smaller than J, though, so I would have to suppose that's not "it".
(although a 22 WMR Bearcat would be a temptation, nonetheless)
A modestly downsized DA kit gun would be keen, and five or six would do nicely.
S&W seems to be doing ok with their 351PD snubbies, typical J size

Ruger has certainly shown a lot new and different products these last couple of years.
Not all will survive in the long run, but is nice to see them trying more such things, especially if they can hold commitment to quality.

Been wondering how long it will be before they incorporate the LCR trigger design into something other than 38/357.

I have an LCR and love it, especially the trigger but I also would be interested in a smaller 22WMR with 6 or more shots. But I don't know if the LCR trigger will transfer to the WMR. I have an S+W 22lr 8 shot (617 as I recall, I keep it in storage) small revolver and I don't like firing it because of the very strong trigger pull. Even pulling the hammer back for single action is painful to my thumb. I understand that this is because the rimfire rounds require a much harder strike than the centerfire rounds and therefore a stronger spring. Some people put weaker springs to help the trigger pull. If Ruger can solve this problem, then they would have a winner.

a 2/3 size LCR in 22 Mag w a 3 inch barrel w adjustable sights would be a great "kit gun".

It would be my first new MIM, plastic revolver.

It's the 317, am all alloy gun, whereas the 617 is all stainless.

From what I've read, it's because if the 317's light weight, including the cylinder, it requires strong springs, not only because it's rimfire.

My .22 all steel S&W Model 34 has an excellent trigger pull and is very reliable.

agree with David E
all the small frame DA rimfires are going to feel a bit stiff compared to the larger frame and/or centerfire revolvers
but, for my money, the older model steel S&W kit guns (34, 51, 63, 651) are the best of the lot

I wouldn't expect DA miracle triggers in any new smaller than J size, but I still think it would be a real fun gun at the range. On the other hand, I am not wild about rimfire snubbies, but not less than 3" would be e'nuff

Yep! What you guys are talking about is a modern rendition of the old Remington and Colt pocket models! As a 5-shot .32 H&R, etc. they would be a cool revolver.

S&W had a short run of 632 revolvers chambered in .32 H&R magnum, one of which was the 4" Kit gun configuration.

Always thought that'd make a dandy trail/camp gun.

Kel tec has the PMR 30 in a semi auto pistol. gun weighs in at 13.6 ounces un loaded and 19 ounces loaded. The clip holds 30 rds plus one in the chamber.

Don't forget, there is new Speer Gold Dot short-barrel .22 Mag defensive ammo out now. Also, Hornady has announced a 45-gr .22 Mag round for self-defense. So the choices are improving for those that wish to use the .22 Mag in concealed carry.

I've been looking at the LCR in .38 Special and the LCP in .380 lately because I could use a really small "always" gun. I'm leaning toward the LCR...

I had a 317 LS, terrible trigger. I also have a new 632, SS with the comp'ed barrel. Fun and nice sized revolver for smaller hands. With less powered rounds - it is fine for the recoil shy.

Got a SS Bearcat for 22 revolver plinking.

I'd love to have a .22 WMR, but I don't want the current S&W J-frame or an LCR. I want a longer barrel and a hammer like the old S&W Model 51 or 651.

An SP101 would be nice, as long as there was a three-inch barrel option.

It's not just that I think this would be the ideal kit gun, it would also be a nice revolver for my wife to shoot. She finds the recoil of my Model 637 and Model 60 to be objectionable to the point she won't shoot either one.

7 or 8 shots of .22 Mag out of a steel-framed revolver. That would be a nice platform for anyone who is recoil shy.

New here, but saw the thread mention the break top NAA. They actually made 560 of them, with the first 60 going to executives, collections etc. The 500 that were sold were sold out in advance. They were basically hand made and were all machined parts to see if it was practical to make and produce it to sell in the 500 dollar range. IF it had been financially practical, the later ones in general production would use some cast parts like the regular mini guns. It was not, and they decided to drop them. They are now going between 1000 and 1500 on the big auction site. They offered up to two to forum members over there on a pre-pay; pre-order basis and they got the first 100 or so ser numbers. The one I got was in the medium 100's. They are nice little guns, and did not really "flop" but were just too expensive to build and fit.

Hey Kellmark; the 22 revolvers all have firmer triggers because it is necessary for the 22 rimfire round. That said, if you ever want to unload your short barrel 617, IM me!
