Don't quote cause i don't know for sure but I think that is factory. I've seen to many for it not to be. If I'm wrong, ooops
 
Probably the biggest difference between the original Model 44 (including the "Deerstalker" model), made from 1961 to 1985 and the later version introduced in 2000 (99/44 "Deerfield Carbine") is that the early series came with a four-shot tubular magazine and the latest ones were made with four-shot rotary magazines. There were other differences too, of course.
 
i havea late 60s vintage one with a leuopold 3x in a tip-off mount, holds the zero very well.
it is so dead on out to ~100 yards with 240 factory stuff
