Recently picked up a rifle length stainless ruger 44 mag barrel. Planning to use it for a custom falling/rolling block single shot rifle.

It looks just like a 10/22 barrel. Ive never seen a 99/44, 96/44, or 44 carbine in stainless. So i assume its off a M77/44. Can anyone confirm this? Its a bit dirty, but the rifling is nice and crisp.

Not without a photo.

For a project idea, I put a Garcia/Star .44 Magnum barrel on a Martini-Enfield action about 25 years ago and haven't regretting it:

Thats about the style of rifle im going for. But ill make the action myself. Only paid 25 bucks for the barrel. Couldnt pass it up at that price.

Might could be a 77/44, but I haven't seen the barrels of either of the other Ruger 44 carbines to be definite.

Don't recall whether the autoloader or levergun were offered in stainless though -- the 77/44 was for sure since I've got one.

That dovetail on the underside is in a good spot for a threaded insert to hold the forend of a single-shot two-piece stock!

The 77/44 was the only one I ever saw in stainless. Also, wouldn't the autoloader 44's have a gas port in them? That's got to be the 77/44 barrel.

As a project idea, do you think the bolt face on a 7.62x39(or 6.5 grendel) howa mini action or Ruger American could be opened up to take a 44 mag? No idea if the barrel threads are remotely comparable, just spit balling ideas.

My 99/44 Deerfield Carbine does have a gas port. Didnt think about that when i posted. My 96/44 lever action obviously does not have a gas port. Dont think ive ever had it out of its stock to look at the under side of the barrel.
