Hi Ya-all

I think I want a 22mag rifle. I just bought a 22mag Single Six 9-1/2" I do need a holster yet but I want a rifle I think.

So help me out, how many of you have a .22mag rifle, what kind, and what do you use it for. I'd like an idea how useful a 22 mag rifle is.
There are not a whole bunch of choices like the 22lr, but there is the inexpensive single shot, various bolt guns, and the Henry lever gun. Ruger and Marlin no longer make a semiauto. Oh ya there is the hard to find Ruger 96/22mag

I have a Marlin 925M that was $179 at Dick's sporting goods. Its a very nice rifle for the money, its a bolt action with 7 round clip.

i have a marlin 883 stainless laminated, with a tube fed mag and just love the thing. bought it used for 170$ without a scope but that was no problem. there a lot like a 22lr theres not alot to wear out or go wrong with them so if money is a concern, check out the used market. the tube mag will hold 14 rounds if loaded carefully, and thats a good day squirrel hunting. it also works on critters up to coyote size closer in. mine holds about a inch and a half at 100 yards, with remington premier 33gr. ballistic tips. 40gr. winchesters shrink to about an inch.go ahead and buy it, you won't regrett it.

I have an older Marlin 25mn and after installing a new trigger, it is a tack driver. I am not just saying that, as I actually explode thumb tacks at 50 yards with it.:)

I bought a stainless Marlin .22 mag with composite stock, 7 rd magazine and Williams Fire Sights at WalMart for less than $190. I'm not certain but I think the Marlin model # is 888SS or 882SS.

It is a good accurate rifle and a great value for the money. I am very pleased with this one.
These Fire Sights are great for low light conditions or shooting into shadows. The rifle also comes with a sight hood and swivel studs.

This rifle shoots everything well but works best with CCI and Winchester ammo.

There are probably places where a .22 Mag fills a great niche between .22LR and .22 centerfire (or larger centerfire) cartridges, but I don't live in one of those places. I've had a Win 9422M since the first year they were introduced. I love the rifle, but honestly it doesn't get shot much because it's basically (for my purposes) a more expensive way to shoot rimfire ammo. I can imagine that if you were, say, hunting small pests in an area where noise and range were an issue but the .22LR wouldn't be enough, it would be perfect. As I said, though, that's not my case. Something to consider...

Kemo;

Look at Savage for a good .22 mag bolt gun. I had one of the .22lr's & it was a very good gun for the money. If you want a lever action, Marlin made or makes the 1894M, a very classy piece of work. Henry might make a far more economical lever, or try to find the aforementioned Ruger 96/22mag. Semi-auto's are few & far between.

I came across one of those Mossberg chucksters with a ugly faded yellow stock. The bolt is a bit on the rough side. I cleaned and reconditioned the stock and it turned out to be beautiful walnut. Put some glass on it and shoot 1'' 1/4 at 100 yards with CCI VMax. SWEET!:D

I have a Ruger Single Six and a Marlin 925M. Great combination!!!!

I have 2 Brno ZKM-611's Semi-auto take down 22 WMR's and a CZ 452 LUX. All excellent and highly recommended. On the 611's...they are not being made any more and so they are NOT cheap and their mags are even less so. ($100-$185 a piece.)

Thanks for all the help... I enjoy a lever action second in line to a semi auto. I know that the bolt is ussally the better shot at a reasonalble price so my choice for a bolt is CZ452FS.I saw this about two years ago but i forgot how much I liked it:what:.

I thinks it's a darn shame but at that same time 2 years ago I was looking at the Winchester 9422. I was touching one at a gun show (2 yrs ago) it was $400.00 now when i'm ready to buy one they're $700-$900 if I can even find it:banghead:.

I grew up shooting a Marlin 25mn. My dad would put his cig butts on
the target rest and we would "pop" them off at 100 yds.
Still have that gun 25 years later, she still shoots the same as well!!!
Yes,she's a bolt gun,but it's a fine firearm.

I have a Marlin 782(older version of the 982). Its a pretty swell gun, although just yesterday it fell on the ground and the scope came off.

But when Im shooting regular ammo through it its pretty accurate. Like chessnuts at 75 yards, informal bench shooting.

I got my marlin model 25MN at a pawn shop for $80 like new.
i got some ring's for it i'm still waiting on a scope,I also installed some sling swivels.
I still need a sling the only reason i bought it was i could not pass on the price.
Well my advice is if you got the money buy the CZ and if you'r thrifty like me buy a marlin.

When I was younger I had a Chipmunk .22 magnum with a 3-9x32 Bushnell scope. It was a great gun for woodchucks and would drop most with one shot. I out grew(?) it but could still pull it in and shoot it well. Why'd I ever sell it...why oh why.

I know that the bolt is ussally the better shot at a reasonalble price so my choice for a bolt is CZ452FS.

Bud's Gunshop has one listed for $352.

Mighty handsome firearm, but the usefulness of a .22Mag rifle is, IMHO, is of somewhat dubious utility. Too powerful for hunting rabbits and squirrels, probably just right for skuns, raccoons, jacks, and like-sized critters. Probably marginal to use on yotes. I have a .22Mag derringer that I inherited that I pull out every once in a while just for fun, but it's hardly useful, and and quite a bit more expensive to plink with than a .22LR.

I picked up a Ruger 96/22M last week. $320 from Davidsons. Very happy with it so far. Shot four boxes of different loads through it now and no problems.
Love the sleekness of it. I have two 10/22s so big fan of the Ruger.

It took me about 6 weeks to find a good 22 MAG for reasonable price. I bought an as new Marlin bolt action on GunBroker.com and paid about half the cost of a new one. I bought a very good as new Simmons 2X - 7X 44 MAG scope on eBay. The entire outfit including scope mounts, shipping, and transfer tax cost me $287.45

The rifle is everything I'd hoped for: accurate and well balanced. At 100 yards, the rifle shoots 3/4 to 1 1/4 inch groups with any ammo I feed it.

Truthfully, I wanted a Ruger 96 but couldn't find one for less than $350. Too much for me at this time.

Good hunting to you.

Fella's;

Rangerruck: That was the Marlin 57M, not the 57. The plain 57 was the .22lr version & not half the gun the 39 is. I used to have a 57 & don't regret its sale a bit.

Roscoe: As I mentioned above, the Marlin lever action tube fed .22 magnum, besides the 57M, is the model 1894M. The 1894M is a fairly rare beastie. Production started in 1983 and ended in 1988. I don't have the run numbers, but the total has to be fairly low. IMHO this gun is undervalued at this time, running around $275.00 - $300.00 for one in excellent condition, no box or papers.
