22 Mag Rifle ? Why ? and ?Which One?

I have the same single six convertible. I have shot almost a whole box of 22 mag through it in the last 16 years. Too expensive and it didn’t give any useable increase in measured performance (it was louder though). So I’ve passed on rifles chambered in 22 mag since (even though there longer barrel would have made them a better candidate for the 22mag), opting instead for .223 if I need a bigger .22. The relatively new .17 hmr offers a substantial performance increase, it’s just going to take cheaper ammo to get me to buy one (if it costs the same as .223, it’s hard to justify. It also helps if many manufacturers produce ammunition. Being rimfire you can’t work up a custom load, you just try all that are available (how many does you local watering hole offer?).

Marlin really needs to make a tube-fed .22 mag lever gun.

In spite of what I wrote above, I would HIGHLY recommend the 9422M. Mine is a gem. The price has gone up since the plant closed, but it may still be worth the premium. It's a very fine rifle.

My Ruger 77/22M Allweather is an honest minute-of-angle rifle with ammo it likes. I used it for turnkey hunting in Virginia, for late-season squirrel hunting, and for crows and other varmits.

The 22 mag is like the 17HMR, about 5 times as much as a 22 LR, in price of ammo....
If you get one, be carefull on self loaders, 22 mag is real particular with them, a lot of them are POS....they do not want to feed. I think the case is too long for proper feeding. If you can find one that works, keep it! Also, with a Self Loader, it loves to burn the ammo....
The 22 mag is used in Michigan for coyote/fox hunting. They do have their place.
I also have a single six, pre warning, SS, and love it, but like others, never use the mag cylinder...too darn expensive ammo...compared to Long Rifle...
