Ruger autos reliable?

I`ve a P97DC that eats HP, LSWC, RN ammo all day, without a hic-up.
My brother also shoots one, and always seems to comment on the reliablity compared to his Smith 9mm and Kel-Tek 380. Great guns at a reasonable price IMO.

My father carried a stainless P90 on duty as a Deputy Sheriff for about 10yrs. I've shot it and it had a great trigger and was extremely accurate. He never had a malfunction nor any complaint.

looks like everything has been covered. just add one more to the ruger P series is tank tough and reliable crowd.

I love (Kiss,Kiss Kiss) my Ruger P97DC best of my .45s and have let other .45 owners shoot it on the range and they all are impressed, Ever if they don't what to say so at times . I've never had a malfunction of any type. great shooter. Blitz

Little over 1K rounds through my SR9 so far and not a single issue. It eats anything I feed it and goes bang every time. Its quickly becoming one of my favorite guns in my collection and is my dedicated ccw.

Rugers in my humble opinion make some of the most reliable pistols on the market and they back it up with great customer service and quality control.

Man that's great! I was a bit leery of it when they first came out but I'm hearing great things and especially after my son and I seeing pics of the new blackslide/green frame ones, I may have to get one....
You guys are killing me with all these new guns that are being talked about....the blk/grn SR9, New Delta Elites, S&W Night guards, etc.......

I like them quite a bit. The only reason I don't own one is it has never suited well to concealed carry because of their bulk.

Rugged and Accurate KP90. Do not try to get fancy with parts. Get some Hogue grips. The only trouble I had with mine was after I installed a 2 stage recoil spring into it, supposed to soften recoil, target faster.. that kind of stuff. Did nothing but make chambering difficult.. keep it stock WORKS perfect.

+1 on everything MCgunner said. I have a P89 and a P90 and have had no trouble out of them in the almost three years I've owned them.
Underline them, I say. Two or three times. Ooooh, just a thought...2009 SHOT Show introduction of Ruger P-gun chambered for the 10mm, anyone? One can dream, and with two new 10mm pistols being introduced at SHOT this year, you never know.

Oh, lordy, for me, a P90 in 10mm would be absolutely orgasmic. And, Ruger seems to be getting a little bolder with the new .380 coming out. I never thought I'd see a light weight, pocket sized .380 out of Ruger.

Concerning grip size, abrink, I have largish hands and do well with my P guns and Hogue grips, fit is wonderful. Those with small hands complain. The polymer guns like the P95 has smaller grip circumference. Go to a shop and pick 'em up, point 'em, see what you think. The P345 is a single stack polymer. I've not picked one up, but might be even smaller around the grip. It's a .45.

I have a Milt Sparks Summer Special that carries either gun comfortably concealed, but you need a Hawaiian or loose shirt over it to keep the bulging down. In hot weather, I don't carry it much, but my P90 is light as any K frame revolver, and a lot lighter than a standard 1911, only 33 ounces unloaded. It just ain't very flat.

Like some of the other posters. I also have a P97 DC. That thing will cycle with anything that i have ever fed it. A lot of ranges use the P series for rental guns. You can't get much rougher treatment than that. Great guns, great price. Yeah, they're blocky and stocky. But, so am I.

Ruger P series pistols seem to gobble up just about any kind of ammo; I know some pistols are a bit fussy about what they eat, but not any Ruger I've fired. I like to test pistols with different brands of ammo to see what works and what doesn't, and Rugers work well with any ammo.

Yep.

My mother has a friend whose husband was looking at buying a .45acp.

I invited him down to our place to try out my 1911's.

He thought the 1911's were alright but he asked me if I had anything different.

So I brought out the P97DC.

After he shot a few mags out of it, he fell in love with it and bought a Ruger .45acp the next weekend.

I have 4 1911's (different models and brands), 3 Glocks, a Taurus PT145, a XD45C and 2 revolvers. However, my overall favorite carry gun is my Ruger P345. It is as accurate and flat as my 1911's, as light and reliable as my Glocks and it's simple to operate like my revolvers.

My P345 will reliably feed anything that I stuff in the magazine and it is the most comfortable shooting .45 that I have ever owned. I have never been one for buying more than one gun of a particular model, but I am seriously thinking about getting another P345 because I love this one so much.

MCgunner, the one on the left looks familiar :)

The P90 was my first pistol. Bought it at Cabela's because I was told to get something that started with a "4" and it was the cheapest ".4-" they had there. Little did I realize what a great decision I made. Boy did I get lucky.

This is really good to hear, because I did own a P90 about 13 years ago but it had jamming issues at the time. Maybe I just had one of the unfortunate crappy one.

I am about to go and pick up a P345 so it is really nice to hear that they are as reliable as any nowadays.

Not one bad comment so far about Ruger's reliability, and I'm not gonna break the string! I've had a P89 for about 8 years and have had ZERO problems. I decided on the P90 when I wanted to add a .45 - bought it just a few months ago. I considered a Glock 21, but the grip was much bulkier than the Ruger (btw, I have Hogue grips on both of them - makes a BIG difference! I consider my hands to be medium-sized, and have no problems with the grip). Also btw, I bought both pistols used. The P90 had some initial feeding problems, but Ruger's customer service sent me a new extractor, for free, and after I put it in, the feeding problems disappeared. (when I took out the old extractor, I could see it was just slightly bent). I've been looking at 1911's recently, and admit I do like their sleek and sexy design, but I just can't justify spending $700+ for a "show off" pistol when I am completely satisfied with my P90, which cost half as much. After just a couple of times at the range, I am surprised how accurate it is. I like to shoot out at 25 yards, and I'm not a great shot, but I can still get better than 3" groupings at that distance.

By the way you can get 15 round mags for the P90 and they work in my P97DC. They work fine. I found one (another P97DC) at a gun show for 350 bucks and thought how nice to ..."Have two guns,... one for each of you." :) Blitz

I do not have a Ruger autoloading pistol but a friend of mine who accompanies me to the range has a P89.
He has had it a number of years, I know he has run a dump truck load of ammunition through it and I have shot it on several occasions myself.
Though it is not the most beautiful handgun in the world it has preformed flawlessly.

Every Ruger P-Series auto I have owned has been 100% reliable. Not 99%, not virtually 100%, 100% period.

IMO it is equal to the Glock in terms of reliability, in my case the Glocks just fit my hand better.

Just my .02,
LeonCarr
