Ok gang I’m new to this group and this is my first post.
I have recently purchased a Ruger Blackhawk .44mag. It has the steel squared of trigger guard on the grip frame. The grips are old school bone.
I would like to change the grip frame to a rounded trigger guard. I’ve looked into this and find a lot of confusion on what will work.
If I get a frame for a Ruger Hunter will it work?
Do the Hunter frames come in steel or just stainless?
Does anyone have a lead on a Brass frame?
I know there are multiple questions but if anyone out there can put me on track I’d greatly appreciate it. C95E3DFA-CBB0-4F87-A0C4-340F1A3C1DCD.jpeg

He has the Dragoon. It’s the only Ruger grip frame which has ever been produced with the square back trigger guard.

Any Ruger single action grip frame will fit, assuming you line up for pre-1998 or post-1998 vintage. All of the screw footprints are the same, the only difference in pre vs. post is the height of the bosses at the rear of the cylinder frame.

Hunter frames are the exact same grip dimension, with the same grip panels as the Dragoon. The Hunter grip frames have only been produced in stainless steel.

Brass frames are out there to be found.

A blued XR3-Red wouldn’t be too far off of a Hunter/Dragoon grip profile, just a bit shorter. The New version of the XR3 is quite a bit smaller, and can look and feel a little disproportionate on the 7.5” barreled models.

Bisley grip frames in carbon steel will also fit, but you’ll need two hex socket cap screws, and either have to tolerate a big gap behind the hammer and in front of the trigger, or replace with Bisley hammer and trigger.

Another way to go, if you're having trouble getting a decent grip with the squareback trigger guard, is to see if you can find a set of over sized grips for your Super Blackhawk. A friend of mine had a set of grips much like the ones in the photo and they worked wonders at making the gun very comfortable and controllable to shoot.

I have a Super Blackhawk with the squared off trigger guard, and a pair of Pachmayrs. Really helps the fingers.
