I am not really a revolver guy, I sold a Colt 38 special a few years back, but for some reason I couldn't shake the itch of wanting a wheel gun in my collection.

That itch also had me craving a single action, as I am a sucker for Westerns. So I opted for this.

I figured the ability to shoot 3 calibers would be nice as it came with a 9mm cylinder. I have heard the 9mm accuracy is so so, but this is just for fun so I am not too concerned about that. It feels like it's built really well and is very beefy.

I am sure a bunch of you have Ruger single actions, how do you like them? Where do you go for accessories (thinking of a different front site)? I am interested in a cowboy style holster for it, been looking at this on Amazon, but I am just not sure.

You will probably be very happy. Ruger single actions are always a good choice. One source for accessories is < http://shopruger.com/ >. Their prices may not always be the best but they can fix you up with a holster and have a fiber optic front site.

My first revolver was a 357 Black Hawk. It is still one of my favorite shooters. I probably wouldn't get any use out of the 9mm cylinder, 38 Specials are just too easy to handle and in-expensive to load when I want something less powerful. If I didn't reload the option of much less expensive 9mm ammo would be a consideration.

Unfortunately I don't reload so the low price of 9mm appealed to me. I feel silly not thinking of ruger's own shop, they even included a coupon with the gun.

You got one of the very best, a "flattop" Blackhawk. It is built on the same "medium sized' cylinder frame as the New Vaquero. Ruger produced a version as the "50th Anniversary" Blackhawk the same year they introduced the New Vaquero. It also has a steel grip frame and ejector housing instead of aluminum as with the standard Blackhawks.

My brother got one like that and thought it did not shoot. In October I brought some 148 gr hollow base wadcutter 38 special target loads out to the gravel pit, and he keep rolling the soup can out to 100 feet.

Great choice in a wheelgun! My older 3 screw model doesn't have a 9mm. cylinder but I'm quite happy with it just the way it is.

Ruger has some nice accessories if you want to change something on your Blackhawk and have some of the best customer service in the business.
