I just purchased a Ruger GP100. I noticed that the ejector rod has alot of play in it from front to rear causing the gun to rattle if you shake it a little. Is this common for this particular model. This is my first Ruger revolver and my other revolvers do not do this.

This is normal and part of the design. I could do without the rattle but on a positive note the ejector rod does not spin like the S&W. If you have ever had a S&W ejector screw out and lock up a gun you will understand what I mean.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I will have to live with the rattle. It"s funny that the GP100 is built as sturdy as it is but has to have an annoying rattle.

Unlike S&W, the ejector rod plays no part in cylinder lock up on the Ruger GP100. It exists simply to punch out empties.

The rattle is not the ejector...

All GP100s have a transfer bar that prevents discharge of the rounds unless the trigger is pulled all the way back. The transfer bar rattles on all GP100s. If you pull the hammer back all of the way, with an empty cylinder, you'll see the transfer bar flappin' around.

I've had two double action Ruger revolvers, and a single action one. The transfer bars rattle on all of them. I'd be worried if it didn't rattle.

The ejector rod as mentioned earlier in the thread ejects empty cases, nothing more. It will not unscrew, and it doesn't serve to secure the front of the cylinder to the frame like revolvers from other manufacturers.
