Well I've decided that a GP100 is going to be my next choice. I was going to go for a Taurus model 66, but I think I like the tank-like nature of the Ruger better. I got to pick one up today and liked the trigger and general feel. Very well put together gun.

The model I've decided on is the Stainless 6" full lug version. The shop I was at today had them priced at $506. I don't think I'm going to find them for less anywhere else. If anyone knows of a cheaper price somewhere let me know, because I'm going to go buy it as soon as I sell enough of my paintball stuff to cover the cost. :D

I gave 250 for mine, but if I know then what I know now, I would have paid full price for it and been happy.

Good choice, that is what I have too and love it. Other than the fact it is a little hard to conceal :what: I have no complaints about it.

Finally got my new to me 4 inch GP100 out to the range today. Pretty darn accurate and the heft soaks up the .357s recoil pretty well.

I really like that GP100. If I hadn't run into the used Smith at a good price with an excellent trigger job, I would have gotten the GP100. These 6" full lug barrels handle the recoil well. The 38 special is like shooting a 22. NICE.

Awesome gun. I have a 4" SS model. If I could only have one gun it would probably be this one.

Great choice! Mine is a 4" SS. All the handgun I need, but my needs are pretty simple.

Last factory new 6" I saw in a local store was $485 for blued and $500 for stainless, so the price sounds about right to me.

I have a 4" stainless and a 6" blued, and both are great guns. You can shoot .357s all day with them without discomfort, and the weight and full lug barrel make them very stable and accurate to shoot. My 4" is also my usual trail/hiking gun, carried in a simple Uncle Mike's sidekick holster.

Great all around revolver. Best value in the medium frame market. I have a GP100 4 inch Stainless and enjoy shooting the revolver. Great for shooting 357s all the time.

Enjoy,

I have the six-inch stainless with Hogue grips. Great gun, especially if you don't plan on CCW. 357 loads are painless. .38s almost feel like BBs. Both rounds are quite accurate.

I rarely fire it double-action, but the trigger pull isn't too bad when I do.

What kind of warranty is Ruger offering these days?

Do they make scope rings or a picatinny rail for the GP100?

I'm planning to use this as an open carry woods gun....
If so, try the model without the underlug. I don't have a GP-100, but I do have a S&W 686 -- and my 6-inch Security-Six is so much easier to carry and point quickly that I'd go with a lighter magnum. Try the light-barrel version before commiting to the full-underlug 6-inch. Or I'd go with the 4-inch model.

I wish Ruger and Smith would put rails on their barrels, so people could add or remove weights as it suited them.

If I wanted extra weight for my Security-Six, I'd wear it around my wrist. It should have the same effect as a heavy barrel...if I wanted or needed it.

Nice choice. I went with the KGP141 for woods and occasional urban carry (WA allows open carry). So if I print or it's peeking out I don't have to worry. Personally I use the CORBON 200grn HCLFN for 4 legged critters. Does pack a kick, but not too much even in my 4". Super accurate, and will penetrate deep if a cat or something is comming after ya. I've found the Bianchi Accumold to be a comfy holster for the woods. And it has a closed muzzle so if you fall down mud and gunk won't get in the barrel.

While ruger does not make a rail system for it many people do use scopes on the GP's for hunting. Good for whitetail out to 100 yards with the proper ammo. If you're only going to carry it for defense though I'd caution against the scope. Makes it pretty bulky and tough to find a holster thats comfortable if you're backpacking.

Welcome to the GP100 club, now turn that paintball gear into $$$.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Also have a 3" SS model. Neither one is for sale!

Great choice in the GP100. I think the 6" around here is about $550.

*ouch*, I don't think that's true.
A weight aound your wrist would increase the inertia of your forearm, and probably create a great deal more strain in the small bones of your wrist under recoil: gun goes one way, forearm stays the other way, streeeetch. Keep the extra mass ahead of the weak link (wrist) to control recoil.

I have a Gp-100 4" as well. At the price you stated you had better buy it, especially if that is a stainless price.

Hello all,
I wish Ruger made one with an 8 or 10 inch barrel.
Or if I could find a smith that could put a Dan Wesson barrel on the GP-100.:neener:

Dang! At that price grab it. I just paid $585 for the exact gun. Ill must have some kind of tax added. I probably paid the extra $80 to help fund their push to take the gun back away from me.

CrashInBlack,I noticed that no one addressed your question about Ruger's warranty. Even though I am brand new not only here but to shooting altogether,I can answer your question. Just scanned from the manual of my new GP100.

You are going to love it. I have the 4 inch barrel that I use for woods carry and home defense and it is my favorite gun. I prefer shooting it over my XD any day. Built like a tank, triggers are not as bad as people say and very accurate. Much more gun for your money than the taurus.

Boy, I shouldv'e updated this thread.

I ended up trading a P89 I never used for a well used but good condition 150-series Ruger Security Six. It's a 4" model with Pach grips, and it's a blast to shoot. :D
