I traded an old snubby to someone for this lcp. It wasnt until I got it home that I noticed a few things. first off, the barrel is extremely rough and filled with tool marks. the slide serrations are filled with tool marks as well. The slide serrations dont bother me as much as the junky barrel. Would ruger fix this? is this common for them to be sent out in this kind of shape

Yikes.... Yeah, that's a little rough. No idea if Ruger would replace or fix that if it shoots ok. You are not the original owner either.

No harm asking them.

Just checked mine and the slide serrations do not have the rough looking tool marks that yours does. The barrel on mine has some tool marks, but not that bad. The only ''issue'' I've had with mine is the finish on the slide is wearing off along all the edges. I've had mine since 2008 and have carried it a lot so I look at the finish wear as character rather than an problem.

Mine is a 2011 model, and while the fit and finish of the LCP was never anything to write home about, it's been serviceable. It has scuffed and scratched easier than I would have liked, and my M&P Bodyguard seems to be more a "real gun" and more durable than the LCP finish-wise, but I can't complain about the little Ruger.

Short of Tula steel case, it'll eat anything and is generally more accurate than I would expect from a mouse gun.

Just checked mine - 2nd Generation bought in July 2013. No issues that you have. None of those finish issues. I am actually much happier with it than a Keltec I once had.

That's one of the knocks to Ruger guns: Fit and finish. It's also one of the reasons why they're pumping out more guns than anyone and typically cheaper than most of their competition. They still go.

This isn't your Bill Ruger company that was once a great gun manufacture. The crap they put out now is cheap. Bluing wears off within a year, looks and feels cheap weaponry. Reliably is ok still but just not the same company when ole Bill was around.
I'll stick with my 6 older Rugers. I don't even look at the stuff they are turning out these days.

It's a low end gun. Not saying that in a bad way, its just fact. If it functions properly, it doing exactly what it's supposed to do.

I've owned a couple Keltec .32's that looked about like that. I bought the for under $200. I own Walther PPK's and Seecamps that look like guns that cost two or three times what a Keltec costs.

I would not expect Ruger to fix cosmetic issues on a used, second hand gun.

the gun functions just fine(other than having to be really careful not to get near the mag release)... I find the condition of the barrel pretty unacceptable considering i have a 30 cal can full of lrn ammo. I would hope that ruger would have a standard at which guns can leave the factory... apparently they do not. I will call monday and see if they stand behind their products. I may just switch back to the tcp when I get my new one back from taurus. The tcp feels much better in my hands where I can grip it good without having to worry about dropping the mag.

I just cant believe that they sent that barrel out the doors of ruger... that thing is extremely crude.

It's a throw away gun...shoot it. Pick up a 938 for polishing on the couch.

Mine looks the same except for lots more holster wear. Never fails to go bang, okay accuracy, not a collectors piece by any measure.

On edit....I had to go grab mine...Yes the inside of the barrel looks identical. Like I said zero issues in the 5 years and around 1500 rounds I've shot it.

They're just trying to save money on cutting tools. Once they get dull they "tear" metal out instead of cutting it away cleanly. The cutters used on that gun were shot. If you are going to buy a Ruger you must accept. You wanna see rough? Look inside any of their revolver frames. I must agree with ritepath - it's a throwaway gun. But at least we can afford to buy one - compared to say a Wilson Combat Supergrade.

It's funny how opinions change with time, when the LCP came out they were great! I remember getting one and expressing how I didnt like it, for several reasons, and I was all alone. Now it seems the consensusis is that, yeah it's a cheap made gun...... Where were you guys 5 years ago (or whenever) when I was all alone. :scrutiny:

I will say, as I said all along they do seem to be very reliable. Just a cheap made reliable gun, which isn't necessarily bad.

^ mines still great....I compared it to the Kel Tec when I was looking for a 380. I thought the fit and finish was miles ahead of the KT. Never really paid attention to the nasty milling marks because it's a 275 dollar gun.

It just works...that's all that matters. I'll leave my kids the Sigs and Brownings.

Well, i got a call from ruger today. They basically said "its a junker, all of our barrels look like that". They offered to replace the barrel but told me to not expect anything much better.

That's honestly about the response I would have expected. At least they offered another barrel that's better than a lot of companies would have done.

That's how I feel - much nicer version of a Keltec. I've always been satisfied with it - assuming yous till know what it is. It's not a $500+ gun

Ruger does not ship an LCP with horrible tooling like that. That was done by Abdulah the Butcher. I have seen the LCP since they came out, none of them looked that rough. Someone tried to play gunsmith with that gun. I would try to get my revolver back if I was you. If you cannot get your revolver back shoot the gun and see what happens. I would put the gun in a vice and pull the trigger with a string.

The gun shoots fine, right? Acceptable accuracy? Doesn't cause excessive collection of fouling? Then it's nothing other than an aesthetic issue.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sorry you're disappointed. But tooling marks inside a barrel that don't affect accuracy or reliability won't ever be noticed by anyone else.

Kudos to ruger for offering to replace the barrel, that's good customer service.

Well heck get a new barrel. I looked at mine which is a 370- model (went through the recall) The slide serrations are the same as yours, the barrel looks fine to me It has lands and grooves:D

Carried every day and works every time, any ammo.

They are the best selling pocket guns ever. Became such a hit as they are what KT should have been.

Only thing I do not care for is the newer ones have a better shorter trigger than the older ones, I have been looking to replace mine with either a new one or the SW. I checked the Beretta Pico but the slide serrations are just not there, Nothing to pull the slide back. I will let them them come out with version 2 before I get one of those.
