Ruger LCP - I picked it up

They are selling [ or priced] from about 2 1/2 to 499. I think that you "should" be able to pick up one for about $230 ++, If the dealer is REALLY hungry, $260 seems realistic.

$230

haven't seen any at that rpice, most reply have been $250 to $300... My dealer quoted me $250 when it comes in.

Saw one today for $245 in NW Arkansas when I put my Carry 9 on layaway. I can't shoot a gun if I can't get my ring finger on the grip. :)

bdfinst, FWIW id assume pearce will make finger extensions. I have big hands and shoot the LCP just fine.

What I'm really waiting for is to see how the Laser Grips company is going to stick a laser on the thing. :D

The fit and finish were much better than the Kel-tecs, but the trigger was a bit heavier. Smooth though. I'm still looking for a pocket gun...

Newbe

My wife got upset the other night when I was not home and she could hear something outside. So, never owning a gun, other than a bb gun, I went and bought something for the house. First I got a Hi-Point 40 (cheap and in stock after the gun show). While there, I seen the P3AT ad. Asked the owner when they were due in some more. While waiting I was out of town and seen a LCP. Liking the finish more than the KT, I picked it up for $309.00. I say all that to let poeple know I have no extensive knowledge on hand guns. I have owned the LCP for 1 week now. Over 200 rounds through it. 100 95 grain walmart winchesters, 50 federal jhp, 50 unknown jhp, and some round nose my friend had for his KT. I love this thing. I hear people talk about babying a gun "out the box." I did not know I needed to do anything to it. I have shot it, cleaned it, and it stays on my hip (till I get my CC permit). Other than being louder than my 40 (400 rounds with only 1 jam from a new clip) I love it. One time it did not feed a JHP, but that was because I had my friends KT clip in (loose, will not clip in tight). I guess I will put a few more hundred through it, get some Buffalo Bore 100gr, and leave it in my pocket till I need it. Is there anything else I should be doing. I am open to anything, y'all should know more than me.

Buffalo Bullet

I have a friend who has a lcp with 2600 rounds through it, You might want to pass on the 100 grain buffalo bullets, he says his does not feed the 100 grain (and I think they are flat nose to) very good at all. Now it does great with the buffalo bullets with the speer hp bullet. If I am right the 100 grain is a lead flat nose bullet..

Nice report though, and right out of the box, no nothing-huh? great little gun..

doc2000, I do think I would lube the rails and barrel . Semi's seem to like that..

You are right, the 100gr is flat nose, hard cast. BuffaloBore also offers a 95gr flat nose FMJ. Also the 90gr Speer HP. All are +P.

Walmart sells WWB 95gr which is flat nose.

Buffalobore claims:"The flat on the nose ensures that the bullet will cut/smash its way through flesh and bone and do much more destruction than typical round nose FMJ bullets. Round nosed bullets tend to slip and slide through matter, doing little damage as opposed to a flat nosed bullet. The flat nose not only wounds much more than a round nosed bullet, but it actually keeps the penetration straight and thus deeper."

They further state:" The 90gr. Speer Gold Dot (Unicore) bullet is the only hollow nosed expanding bullet we trust to expand reliably, yet penetrate deep enough to be lethal on a drugged up, pain free attacker. It is traveling over 1,200 fps out of my BDA (Browning Double Action) with its 3.75 inch barrel."

Bear in mind the LCP barrel is one inch shorter and probably will not develop this velocity. So, with the LCP, does the Speer expand or act like a round nose?

Any other reports on flat nose bullet performance with the LCP?

My sample does not feed the Buff 100-grain lead load, hangs up on the barrel hood. It does cycle perfectly with the other two Buff loads, one of which is a flat-nosed FMJ.

Something is wrong here. This LCP thread is loaded with good, useful information instead of a bunch of yahoos bickering about Kel-Tec versus Ruger. I about fell off my chair when I read it.

I shoot 90 grain Hornady XTP in my .380. I'm reckoning it'd feed in the LCP from what I'm hearing and it's a penetrator. I don't worry too much about expansion in this caliber, frankly. I'd rather be sure of two holes and reaching the vitals.

I cast a 105 SWC, but sounds like it'd have problems, perhaps, in the LCP. Hmmmm....... The WW flat nose ball I know about is "green" ammo, designed for indoor range use. It might be decent as a defense load for penetration and tissue damage, but it doesn't have a very sharp shoulder to the flat.

Prejudice

Can't see why anyone would shoot anything other than the Corbon dpx "barnes" all copper bullet. They designed it with two test guns, both kt 380 , This round will feed right and it will expand every time in the little kt, so it should also do the same in the Ruger lcp. It also retains 100%of its bullet weight to. Numerous tests have shown this little 380 dpx round really gives great expansion, due to the barnes copper bullet.

Its the round of my choice in my 9mm also, and will be when I get my lcp in and my later on Kahr P380. Alot of flat nose ammo just does not do well in these little guns, so why chance it..FWIW

buffalo

They like alot of other ammo makers claim "alot" of things. Probalby if we believe everythingwe read, there probalby wolud only be one round offered and one gun offered. #1 Is to find the defense round that performs flawlessly out of our your handgun, as we know they all have different personalities. # 2 is then just shoot it like u stole it..:)

I would not consider that out of the ordinary, beats the hell out of 40 feet... would you say the brass was dinked bad enough to not be reloadable???

I am really not the one to ask. It looked like someone tried to cut into it and decided to stop. Just a little 1/16 cut, maybe. If that helps, that's what I saw.

I ordered mine today. My dealer told me that his supplier has a back order of 1000 lcp's, but I should have mine in about 5-6 weeks.

Also, if you didn't read my previous post, I phoned Ruger and the LCP does not have a mag disconnect and will handle the hot buffalo bore ammo, but they don't recommend it all the time as the gun will start to loosen up and ware out at a faster rate than if you use regular 380 ammo.

Shoot safe - I do

Academy Sports says their coporate order from Ruger is overdue and don't expect any for another 30-90 days. Price will be $290.

Hearing the same from a few other guns shops in upstate SC.

Please include any info regarding PRICE, AVAILABILITY, and LOCATION in your posts. Thanks!

Any concern that Ruger may experience quality problems in trying to meet initial demand?
