Looks like Ruger has rebadged the KelTec P3AT and are calling it the LCP

Interesting piece ... if its not much more cost than the KelTec it's clearly prettier :D

If nothing else it does show that Ruger is shifting its thinking.

It says it'll be out "Mid March 2008" .... well since its a little past Mid March 2008, I was wondering if anyone has got their paws on one yet?

Ya...but is the feed ramp polished? Is there enough improvements to warrant replacing my P3AT...which I admit has had malfunctions and needs to be babied prior to each and every carry.

I was able to play with one at the Shot Show when they announced it and my local shop just got one in. It looks like Ruger took a P3-AT, changed the extractor, cleaned up the lower, and put their name on it.

I heard, rumor only, that Kel-Tec already filed a suit. My local dealer was selling it for $20 more than the Kel-Tec.

Kel-tec mags work and it fits in holsters made for the P3-AT.

Well, I'm sure it's a rumor only, as George Kelgren and company didn't patent a single thing on the P-3AT.

I have a 3AT that has been flawless over 400 rounds or so, but there are too many reports of questionable reliability "out of box" to discount them all. Ruger has made the gun 2 .oz heavier, improved the extractor, and seems to have, at least asthetically, a better fitted gun.

Only time will tell, but the range reports on ruger forums and even the incredibly biased KTOG forum have been glowingly positive.

We'll see.

Ruger is 1.1 ounce heavier, and no lawsuit. Kt never patented anything . Indeed the ruger feels alot better in the hand, due to some ergonomics in the grip, fit and finish is much better. there are alot out there already, I don't have my two yet,but my friend has one with 2200 flawless rounds through it without one malfunction and he did nothing to it. No fluff and buff needed he said either. Clenaed it at round count 1000 and not since. Might look alot like the kt (andit does) but it is not a kt..

To me, that's the most impressive thing about the gun. I love my Rugers, but until now, they really didn't make something for the CCW market that appealed to me other than my SP101 and it's no pocket gun. Now, they need to copy the PF9 or P11, though I won't likely trade my P11 on one. If I had a P3AT, I wouldn't trade for the Ruger. I was wanting one of these, but am putting it off at the moment. If Ruger comes along with a stainless slide, well, then I might have to bite.

ruger

My bet is that you will see the kt pf9 copied by Ruger and with Rugers modifications. ruger needs a ccw 9mm pocket gun. Also feel there will be no stainless slide on the lcp. IMO ruger should have done that when they introduced it, sure would have added a few more bucks to it but i think it would have been worth it. My feeling though is that Ruger wanted to go head to head with kt on the gun. They are both in the same price range now and may the best gun win.

I would also bet that within a year we will see S & W coming out with their ccw pocket gun. to me if they are thinking in that direction, I would try to come out with a 9mm pocket gun FIRST instead of another 380 pocket gun. FWIW

update March 19, for THOSE WHO ARE INTERESTED. My friends Ruger lcp has now 2500 flawless rounds through it, without one hic-cup, no broken parts NO NOTHING. Just goes bang every time and oh IT IS NOT WORN OUT EITHER.

+1 Nothing wrong with my 3 KT's Relieable and accurate See no reason to buy a copy that weights more and cost more. If needed KT has best cusomer service going

How is Ruger's customer service, anyway? I've never dealt with them. I have 7 Rugers, but they never break....:banghead: I know for a fact KT is probably the best of the best in the industry. Those guys are really on the ball. Plus one for the P3AT in my decision, but I really like my Rugers. I only own one Kel Tec, but it has been flawless.

All autos malfunction. If yours has been flawless...then you have not fired it enough. Period. I own a P3AT...and yes, I know how to fluff and buff...and I know how to lube the slide...but she will still malfunction. Carry it in the pocket holster for a week or two...then take it to the range. Whether the grease wears off on the rails, or it gathers dust bunnies...it will fail on you. I want...I so want someone on here, with a little integrity, who owns both the new Ruger and the P3AT to do an actual, objective comparison and do side by side firings on the range.

dawgfv

You have a Poster and I think a moderator on the kt forum that owns um both and has shoot thousands of rounds out of his lcp with no breakage. You might ask him. he owns the lcp and kt 380 and his integrity is not disputed either.

The first thing I see different is the nice extractor on the Ruger.
Actually that seems to be pretty much the extractor design from the first generation p3at and current p32.

the p32 shares the old style extractor with the 1st gen p3at and the lcp

It is NOT a rebranded Kel-Tec.
You are far more generous than I. :D

Yeah, I've only put 11,000 rounds plus through my P11 in a dozen years. I suppose that ain't enough. I'm not sure on my two Ruger P guns, probably 3K through the P85 since I've had it and probably something short of 10K in the P90. Lots of competition shooting with that one and some with the P85 before I lost interest in IDPA.

I had a P95 that had a few jams, was related to the fact that I was trying to feed it with P85 aftermarket 15 round mags. If you maintain your guns and they have no flaws and you feed 'em good ammo, why should they necessarily malfunction, I mean, since you seem to know it all? Frankly, if you have a gun that malfunctions, DON'T CARRY IT! Hell, if I thought all autos jammed, I'd stick with my revolvers. Send that P3AT back to Kel Tec. If they can't fix it, they'll send you a new one. Those guys are awesome.

I've been following all these LCP threads hoping for actual first-hand range reports, but for every one of those posted, I have to wade through several hundred "rebranded Kel-Tec" posts, every one of which has the rhetorical value of: "Is too!" "Is not!"

I propose that everyone who feels the urge to comment on this subject yet again should please step in front of a fast-moving bus.

Wonder if Ruger sells the gripframe for $25. like KT does?

I'd buy one just to prove that it could be loaded right up with my 3pat parts and be good to go.
