Ok. If you read my thread in The revolver forum. You know the run down.

But for those that dont:
Im in florida, and plan on getting my concealed weapons permit soon. I was looking for a gun for this reason. The only handgun i have is not good for this.

I was at first skeptic on having a semi as a carry gun, simply because, i feel like whatever i carry i should be able to draw and shoot. Meaning that with a semi, i need one in the chamber at all times. I have a kid on the way, meaning i need to feel a gun is safer then i ever did before. For this reason. I wanted a revolver.

However. My hesitation for semi-auto's may have been my own ignorance/lack of understanding.
My own handgun, the firing pin is pulled back when you load the chamber, meaning that a defect, a worn part, ect could, possibly lead to the firing pin shooting forward, and the gun going off.

However, after reading posts here, and else were. It seems to me. The firing pin is not pulled back on the rugar lcp with one in the chamber. And that the DA trigger means the firing pin pulls back, and then goes foward all with the pull of the trigger.

Am i understanding this correctly? If not, can one better explain?

I leave it to you guys to make me feel safe with this gun on my body, one in the chamber.

I have really fallen in love with this gun. Its no HD gun, but thsts what the mossy 500 is for. Amd being that i have never had to conceal before, i really want something small and easy to hide for my first conceal carry weapon.

EDIT:

i forgot a mojor question

Is it worth the extra money next to say the kel tec equal. Or the p11. I found one (dont member wich) for $180 i think it was. That would almost give me the money for my conceal weapons class and permit. So i wouldnt have to wait. Or i could keep the gun i have instead of having to sell...But its used, and the ruger is new. Also, if its a p11 thats a 9mm so its a little more powerful andbi have a box or two of 'range' rounds already (my current gun is a 9mm) ithey seem about the same size, he ruger might be a tad smaller. They were at different shops so i couldnt see them next to each other.

I dont know much about the kel tec. Is it also DA?

The Ruger LCP is quite safe when carried with a chambered round. It is a double action, meaning that the long trigger pull retracts the firing pin then fires the gun. No safety lever to worry with. The only caution is to carry it in a (pocket) holster which covers the trigger. The LCP is, IMHO, a very good choice for a small, very concealed, pocket type concealed handgun.

You are correct in your understanding of the LCP and it is a fine concealed carry piece. I think a mouse gun like the LCP is a great 1st choice for a new CCL holder as it will allow you to 100% carry with relative ease. Have a gun is the #1 rule, the larger more impressive handguns won't do you much good if they were left at home because they were too heavy and uncomfortable to carry.

On a side note, I didn't see your other thread but you seem to be saying that you are afraid to carry a striker fired auto with a round in the chamber because it could possibly fire on it's own. Not true, all modern striker fired designs require the trigger be pulled to the rear in order for the firearm to fire. Even if there is a catastrophic failure of the striker mechanism and it releases on its own, the gun won't fire if the trigger isn't pulled.

Thanks guys!

I jist dont feel comfortable with my gun, one in chamber. Thats all. Being the wau the ruger is made. I think i will feel safe with it.

I've been carrying a Ruger LCP for close to two years now and feel completely safe with a round in the chamber. If you think about it, the LCP trigger pull and a double action revolver have similar trigger pulls and everone considered revolvers safe to carry with a full cylinder load. Last time I had looked, neither Colt or S&W had manual safety on their DA revolvers and most people considered them safe to carry for almost 100 years. Please note that I said DArevolver and not SA type revolver. Relax and don't worry about...it's perfectly safe to carry loaded with a round in the chamber.

When I first started carrying I felt uncomfortable with one in the chamber. I carried a 1911 and it just made me a little uneasy - a Glock 36 too. What I did for both was this: I carried locked and cocked without a round for about a month (both) just to see what the chances were of me negligently knocking the safety off and pulling the trigger (1911) or just simply pulling the trigger on the racked G36. I never did either and felt much better about it. I am not worried about it now as I feel completely at ease and always, always, always keep my finger away from the trigger - knowing it will go boom if I pull it.

Just make sure you always use a holster that covers the trigger/guard. You're going to love the LCP. Remarkable little pistol.

I carry Fl. made KelTec's for years in 32 and 380 I have now the PF-9 never been a problem and I like the KelTec over the Ruger copy. Some will disagree but I like the KelTecs.
Another good carry pistol in 380 is the Bersa 380 Thunder This gives you the long trigger pull first shot the shorter lighter from 2nd shot till empty.
This is a DA/SA auto and has a firing pin block It won't fire till trigger is pulled . If concerned about a child Remove mag disables the pistol also. If really really paranoid their is also a key lock . I have 5 kids raised around guns their fine if you teach them . Hide it make it a no no and they will want to find and play. Take away mystery at young age .

The Ruger LCP is a great pocket carry gun. When I can't bring my Glock the LCP goes with me.
